Default GTC - what would you do?

Goodness me, no-one's posted on this bit for ages!

Having just received my annual bit of wasted rainforest from the GTC, I've realised that as I'm in a private school, I don't need to be registered with them any more (I think)

Do you think i should de-register? Obviously it would save me my annual registration fee, BUT I don't know if I'm going to stay where I am. I may want to get back into the state sector in two years (because if I don't, I won't have a choice any more, cos all the state schools will think I'm a wimp who can't do behaviour). I don't know how easy it is to re-register with them, or really anything about it.

What do you think?

I would say de registered, but if you ever wanted to do a bit extra and do some supply in a state school (cannot remember how many days a week you work, sorry!!), you won't be able too.

I don't know about re registering, I should think that as long as you have all your qualifi

easy to re-register, just call them with your DfEE# and they can do it over the phone there and then.

Don't know anything about it in the private sector though!

I agree about the rainforest thing, same with the unions, I'm getting a piece of mail each week offering me household insurance through them!

Hi

I would say to watch out for them and the fee though if you don't re register exactly on date. I registered with the GTC in January this year and they charged me £33 from then til March and another £33 from March this year til next. I asked them about it and they said they (conveniently I thought) don't do part charging. So you might be just as well financially to renew it now cos if you do within the next year anyway they will charge you the same.
