Two possibles that I see happening a lot are:

1. At the end of a year fixed-term contract, people being replaced by someone cheaper (NQT!) Here, the school can be found guilty of unfair dismissal, you can't get rid of one only to replace with someone else doing the same job.
2. At the end of a year fixed-term contract, people being given another year fixed-term contract. What I see happening here is someone being kept on year-long contracts as the school knows in a few/

of years their numbers will have fallen enough to warrant losing a teacher. The teacher on the fixed-term contract will automatically be the one they lose. However, if the teacher has done a years' continuous service then it is illegal to not go through the correct redundancy procedures and choose the person to lose accordingly.
