Why I do supply

Well, I finished full time teaching in Oct 2005. I was absolutely hating my school at that point so I was just glad to get out (having been there 5 years and not enjoyed it for a while b4 that)
I actually thought I would move away from teaching altogether but actually got called up by one school very soon after I finished (I knew the head b4 I finished full time work) and I did a few days supply there. A teacher there recommended me to another head and I got loads of work from that!

I now work every Monday and Wednesday for these 2 different schools and do supply for one in particular. I also do some supply occasionally for my husband's school too so it keeps the pennies coming in. I have variety, flexibility, get to meet lots of great kids (who I know mostly by name now which helps!) and can walk away by at least 4pm most days! Bliss! My past life is now forgotten completely!
I am not sure how long I will do this but for now, it is great. I may well apply for something a bit more permanent next academic year but will see

I agree Ruthie, especially with having own kids at home, and if mine have jabs or are unwell i can stay home and take care of them without feeling guilty. I also love getting to know lots of schools so if I do want to apply I know where to (or not to) apply!
