I've got an appointment at the JobCentre on Friday, so I'll let you know what they say. If anyone has any specific questions they want me to ask, please post them here and I'll find out for you. As far as I know, you can sign on and then work up to 16 hours a week without it affecting your benefit. I'll check this up on Friday.

Wow... that'd be great to know... 16 hours is more than I usually work.. but I think it'll go on what rate you're paid each hour though? It'll be worth knowing, thanks!

I signed on over summer although it took until I'd been back at work for a week to get paid! It was back dated til July which was handy too! As soon as I had worked over 16 hours a week, I had to cancel my dole and you have to re-apply again after. Your rate each week might depend on your daily rate but I don't recall giving them that info. I'm hoping to do private tutoring rather than signing on during the holidays from now on. Good luck!

[smilie=grouphug.gif] I'm sorry about today...

Th job centre... it's their job to make it difficult I think! There's so much red tape in anything these days. I had disability allowance once, off work for 9 months, I was well before I'd got a penny! Things have improved though... hang in there!

ed it is too!

There is a rule that you can work for up to 16 hours without having to sign off again. The money that you earn is deducted from your benefit, which is fair enough.

However, if you work for under 16 hours but earn more than you would have got in benefits for that week (£57 ish), then you are automatically signed off and have to sign back on again! You don't have to go through the whole long signing on performance, they have something called "rapid recall" (I thought that was something to do with knowing your 4 x table!!), which I will probably find out about soon. The lady I spoke to said she wasn't sure whether you lose benefit for the week when you earn the money or the week when the school finally gets around to paying up, but I have another appointment on Wednesday to see someone else, so I should find that out then.

Whew!! [smilie=meaculpa.gif]
