Oh crikey! Long winded, drawn-out process... I can't believe they manage to get so many people on the dole! They must have a massive backlog. I guess it all makes sense what they've said so far, except yes, you don't get paid very quickly, so you'll have to watch they don't take it off your allowance twice, when you work, and when you get paid.

Can you believe, after all that nonsense, I got a letter from them on Saturday to say I couldn't have any money after all!!
[smilie=banghead.gif]
Apparently I didn't pay enough national insurance during 2004/2005. Rather unfair I think - I didn't pay national insurance because I wasn't earning anything, therefore I need something now even more!
Up till July 2004 I was doing my PGCE. Then I moved house and didn't work cos my kids were settling into a new area and I wanted to be there for them (not a very modern To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Shouldn't the LEA have been paying my contributions while I did my PGCE?
I don't know, I'm completed bemused by the whole thing. All I understand is that I have no money and aren't going to.

It's not a fair system is it?
My mum never worked much while we were growing up, but never signed on either, she was a housewife by choice. Dad To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. I don't think it counts if you were a student, you're not eligible to pay, like OAPs and kids.

Nutcracker,
You should have applied for Income based JSA instead of Contribution based JSA.
Even if you have worked, the Job Centre people have a quirky way of wor To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. out the years of contribution that the used to work your entitlement.
The govt. says you can live on about £57, yea, right! But that is what the use, so a days supply takes you beyond that amount. But then, you can claim council tax benefit and housing benefit; that is when claiming is really worth it.

signing on
Hi everyone,
I qualified last year and haven't been able to find any work so far. So I went to sign on and have just gone through my 3rd or 4th interview through the rapid recall process.
When you sign on, ask for a form that allows you to declare the days that you have worked so even if you are likely to earn more than the job centres £57, you are not signed off (unless you have declared 16 or more hours of work).
Every two weeks I fill in the form with my days of work and submitt them when I go to sign on. If I have earned and received more than the £57 then I get nothing from them, which is okay as long as I can continue to sign on.
Anyone not allowed to sign on because of a lack of contributions should go back ask for income based job seekers allowance.
Hope this is helpful.

Can I sign on?
Hi guys,
I did a flexible PGCE so finished xmas 2005, and then went travelling for a few months. Since March 2006 I've been doing supply whilst loo To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. for a full time position. Unfortunately there's nothing on the horizon so looks like I'll still be doing supply work come September.
Can I sign on over the summer? Read the other posts and not sure if i'd need a income or contribution based alowance, or if I'm entitled to anything at all? I wont be teaching for the agency over the summer so wont cover the 16 hour job centre limit.
All seems very compli To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. ed....
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
