Foundation subject resources?
Hi
Just wondering what resources people take for foundation subjects? Maths and Lit are quite easy, but unless you know what they are doing in a foundation subject - how do you know what to do?
I am busy preparing my resources for when the supply work comes in and am a bit stuck with foundation resources for KS2 - in particular Y3 and Y4.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks

Normally the classroom has all the resouces you need. You just need to provide the activity To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. s! White boards to practise letters and numbers, big picture books to stimulate a topic, connect activities by themes, e.g. animals, the zoo, transport, the jungle etc. I'll add more soon!

I think this is a tricky one because you cannot prepare anything if you don't know what topic they're doing and if they've taught it yet. I was in Y2/3 last week and saw they were doing India, so as nothing had been planned I found rangoli patterns on the internet printed them off, found a great website that showed loads of designs for the IWB, the kids loved it. At the end of the day i noticed the teacher's planning stuck to the wall, I took it out of the plastic and in 3 weeks'time she is doing rangoli patterns, whoops! I did leave a note of extreme and sincere apologies and told th Head who said it was fine, hope so because that was the school I loved!
I think you just have to try and see what they've done in the topic concerned and maybe get them to draw/write about their favourite bit using books in the class to help, at least it's revision if nothing else and helps with research skills???

I think if there's no planning available and you're only teaching 1 day and you are the only class in the year group then it's acceptable to do a "one off" day when you come up with your own theme. It's refreshing for the children, they're learning something and the class teacher can continue with their own plans the next day!

You do have to be careful/wary though, I got asked to do a 'one off day' by a school... as it was the last day of term, I couldn't even believe they were getting me in! The Dep. Head, it was his class, said I could do whatever I wanted, art all day as far as he was concerned.
The kids loved it. They were Y2, and they didn't realise, but we did Lit/Num/DT/Science... all about aliens and spaceships! They thought they were playing all day, but had produced enough work for a fantastic display!
This 'alien expert' as the kids thought I was, has never been asked back!
It turns out, that day was, unbeknown to me, an 'interview', they looked at all I'd done, and decided not to ask me to apply for a job there! I didn't quote the right success criteria and NC links in my plans - hmmph.
However, it's a bit like purple's situation with her ex-agency, I had already been asked a few weeks back to apply for a job there, and I'd said that I didn't want to. I don't want to work there!! I'm glad I never have to go back on supply again! I think it's a damn cheek that the Dep. Head didn't plan anything for that day for me to do, I didn't get any PPA time, I don't get paid to plan, and he knew he was going to be away two weeks prior! They can piss off if they think I'm working there again, the atmosphere is more challenging/confrontational than welcoming when you walk in.
Vent over. We need a smilie that take a little bow!

I cannot believe that they can do that, watch you and then choose not to call you for interview, what a cheek, is it legal??? You are certainly better off not working in such a place that's for sure.

I don't know, but it's not like I knew they were watching or anything. I didn't even know they were recruiting. The job was advertised a To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. of weeks later, I suppose it went to a select person though, who they'd vetted and invited! I didn't give the ad a second glance and it was only on a chance meeting with a TA in the supermarket that I found out what they were doing!
