Default Story Suggestions

Hi

I have just been brave and put my name down for supply at my locla primary school where I have been helping out for a while. Have been out of teaching for 10 years now and although in some ways it is like riding a bike I do feel like my wheels are a bit rusty!!

I was just wondering if anybody had some suggestions for their favourite good short stories / picture books that they have used and have gone down well? (From YR - Y6)

Thanks!
Jackiex

Sure you'll be fine once you get started.

As for stories, I've found that anything by Julia Donaldson goes down well with the infants I've been working with - in fact I've found them nosing in my bag to see which books I've brought with me !

Let us know how you get on

I agree - "The Gruffalo" (and all the other books by Julia Donaldson) always go down well . They're also great for other cross-curricular work, from drama to geography!

KS2 - the books in the Harry Potter series are also great and are useful as a stimulus when writing descriptively.

Really any book will be great if you read it with enthusiasm - books can quieten down the noisiest class if it is well read!

s, I have a big home selection of picture books as I have 3 boys at home. Used one from Paul Jenning's "Unbearable" short stories today which had year 4 hooked - phew!!

Hi there, I'm sure you'll be fine! Short stories are often good as they get finished! The Kevin Crossley Holland short story collection is unusual and thought provoking.
