this!!!

or hot chocolate if you're in need of the good ol' chocolatey fix without an actual bar of the stuff!
a bottle of water's always good though, have it on a desk/to hand & sip it throughout the day, really helps the voice. oh, and cereal bars/small piece of fruit for when you get the munchies during the day!
maybe some graph paper as well if you're maths?! it depends on how organised the school is I guess

I am usually doing secondary supply and find these things useful to have in my bag.
  1. Cheap pencils with rubbers on the end.
  2. Several metal pencil sharpeners in a box with your name on.
  3. Cheap pens.
  4. Highlighters (a few) for the inevitable words searches that get left for 'supply'
  5. A cup/tea bag/coffee sachets/sugar packets or money for vending machines. Some schools are great about letting visitors use coffee etc. but others are really bad and the cups are a bit dirty.
  6. A plastic page to put the timetable for the day in and a diary and a phone to keep up to date with assignments. It is a good

to straightaway write the running order of rooms and times and subjects in the diary and put the time the last lesson ends. Also write the journey time to the school for next time and the helpful people you encounter in the day (Secretaries/HOY/Head esp. useful) Note where the staffroom and

  7. A small notebook to write messages in if you have to send a kid somewhere with a note.
I would not bother taking paper. You will use it up in one lesson! There should be paper in the room, and if not send out for some.

A board pen and a short logic problem to quickly stick on the board for when you turn up at the same time as the kids and need a few minutes to find the work set or quickly invent a lesson! A generic problem can be used regardless to the subject you end up in.
