I like to be armed for every eventuality but am reluctant to carry a load of things I won't use, so I also have a memory stick on my keyring upon which I have some standalone worksheets and activities I can print out if necessary (I take physical resources just in case there is no working computer/printer/you need a password/padlock/keycode to get into the ICT suite, you know the drill. It's no good having an amazing resource you just can't use!)

To be honest, there usually is planning available and the main things I use are the story books and little time fillers.
My most important 'ingredient' is to get to the school by about 8.15 rather than the 8.30 the agencies recommend, especially if it's a pre-booking, because by the time you've signed in, had your parking space approved by the secretary (oh yes, in one school this took a good 15 minutes!), been taken to the classroom, met the teacher if they're there and gone through the planning, familiarised yourself with the routines, met the teaching assistant, lost the teaching assistant, who has suddenly been given mysteriously important 'duties' to perform in another class, tracked down staffroom and To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater.
