e a huge decision to give up my permenant job - teaching reception/year one in a very small school (4 teachers!) and go into supply. I have been there since an NQT (4 years) and have come home in tears more days than with smiles on my face, due to one person who has

e my life hell! So my husband got sick of handing me the tissues and helped me to see there was a way out. But I am a born worrier and think what have I done given up my job and my money to go into the unknown!!! I feel very scared but also relieved I won't have to put up with the heart ache any more. Sorry to waffle on just needed to get it off my chest. I feel excited about the prospect of teaching different ages and in different schools but really scared as I've only taught reception/year one. Am I

to get you sorted!

Breathe next! And well done, it's a very brave person leaves a job and takes a leap into the unknown. But, it'll only be unknown for the first few days...

Why not start off by only doing supply in KS1, until you've got over the 'eek, I'm a supply teacher' bit... can you face doing supply at the school you've just left? Probably not, I couldn't when I left one for similar reasons, and I'm sure with just 4 teachers, there's not much call for supply anyway!

After the first fews days in new schools with new year groups, you'll realise that the kids are all the same, the work's not much different, and you'll be ready to take on Y3/4 (year 5/6 won't be too far away). When you're in KS2 for the first time, it'd be good if it was in a through-primary, where you'd already taught KS1, so you know a little of the school system, and it won't be completely alien.

Supply work is a great way to rebuild your confidence, and you may find yourself one day either never wanting to go back to full-time, or finding a lovely school where you feel at home, and being offered contracts!
