Join a.s.a.p. and have a look at all their websites. It's obviously your choice which union to join. Personally I'm in the NUT. Was in ATL for about 8 years, until I became a supply teacher and realised they didn't support us. It's a different matter if you're an NQT though... their websites should have lots of incentives for you!

I'm a NUT too - and I was a NUt baby / token child on all the strikes 25yrs ago!
They did help me when I was being harassed / had to leave my last school - did need a bit of a kick to get going - but that was because my head was so good at making it out to be me.
Yes there are incentives, but I think the choice should be

e on what they stand for - i.e. join PAT if you don't agree with striking.

But mainly JOIN ONE NOW, I can't stress that enough.

I joined NUT after a student and NQT yrs with ATL. My old school sent me a letter they received from ATL with my detail on and stating active member. Do you have to let them know your not rejoin or just not renew membership?

Think they'll figure it out, but might keep sending you reminders etc., so probably worth the phone call...

Just looked at the sheet properly and realised the school had requested to change the details on the website then sent me a printout to drop a hint. Could have phoned me or put a little note in it was very inpersonal.

Excellent!

Strange thing about the union... why would the school be bothered to do it? Anyway, one of those things you should quickly forget!
