them tomorrow after 10 years.

Just got an email I've been waiting for since long before Christmas.

They support the use of CS/HLTAs for short-term cover, and apologise that I will find this disappointing.

That infuriates me.

What infuriates me just as much, is that I wrote a good month before Christmas hols, using their 'emergency email' system. I wrote that I'd like a quick reply as I'd like to sort out membership with someone else if I wasn't happy with their response, before term

ted again.

They're late, I'm still registered with them, and membership runs from Jan - Dec, and you pay for a full year no matter when you join/leave. If I get charged for this year after I sack them tomorrow... I swear I'll... t arsing about with membership forms etc., going to join the NUT, I don't agree with some stuff, but they're the only ones apparently who don't support the use of CSs/HLTAs for short-term cover, and I wonder why... :

: because CSs/HLTAs aren't allowed to join that union... they don't get substantial amounts of money from them like ATL etc. do!

Grrrrr!

They're good, my favourite for 10 years, until they wrote to me to say they support the use of HLTAs/CSs for cover as I described to them:

I rely on day-to-day work from local schools for when teachers go on courses/have interviews etc. or are sick for a few days. This work has kept me going for the last two years, and supply teachers in general for years before that... But they agree with the Gvt that HLTAs/CSs are ok for this. Teachers go sick with no planning for days at a time I've found... and TAs are doing this work!

The NUT don't support this at all. It looks like they're the only ones... coincidently the only ones I know who don't have subscription payments from CSs/HLTAs.

But if you're not going to stick with supply, are after full-time perm. work, then stick with them... they're excellent in every other way I've found!

I'm just having a great big moan at the moment.. hence the nickname!

I didn't realise you could join them all!

I spoke to someone at ATL to cancel membership, asked why I was leaving, told them, and they really had no comment! I've had to put it in writing for them. Said I couldn't support the work agreement with CSs/HLTAs for a number of reasons:

My workload has dropped 75%
I am not being respected as a professional
TAs were being used, not just HLTAs
Children want/need/should be entitled to a qualified teacher for every lesson
Children who were awarded TA/HLTA support, were losing it, as the TAs/HLTAs were offering/being asked to cover lessons
Art does count!
History does count!
Some schools are letting TAs take these lessons.
Not Lit/Num/Sci, they're far too important.
So is PSHE! So is Circle Time! So is ICT!

Rant over.

I spoke to a lady at NUT, before joining, who agreed, on behalf of the NUT, with everything I said. The NUT aren't against teachers having PPA etc., but they are against the use of unqualified staff ta

Yea ALT offers a lot of teaching resources for free I think £150 worth...

I'm a member of NUT although thanks for the information on joining more than one union during your training year (I am a GTP student)!
