Default Union Fees!

Hi,

Is it just me or are union fees huge!!!!!!!

I have just received my renewing letter and they're charging me £71.50 for this year!!!!

Do I have to belong to a union? I know teachers have to be members of the teaching council but what about unions? Is it optional? I've never actually used my union!

Default unions

There is no closed shop in the UK and you do not have to belong to a union. You do have to join the GTC however if you want to teach in State Schools.

However most unions will offer an insurance package as part of the mebership. If you are not a union member where will you stand if a child slips and has a long term disability and you are found to have been negligent? What happens if your hand bag/mobile phone/wallet disappear whilst at a school? WHo will advise you on your pension provision or your legal position if there is some unpleasantness? Thisnk carfully before not having a union....I never have had to claim on my life insurance
