Default school directly after agency

I got a question. I have been work.ing now and then at a school through an agency, I would like to know if it is ok to contact the school and ask to work there directly instead of through the supply agency? I am wondering this because I know they are having financial problems atm.

Are there any contracts between supply agency and schools, forbidding the schools to hire the supply teacher directly?

Anyone to shed some light?

Normally if an agency introduces you to a school then the convention is that if the school want to employ you directly they have to pay the agency a fee, ma

it very unlikely for short term daily work (and also longer term work) as the fee can be quite high.

This is what is supposed to happen in theory.....

What happens in practice is another matter....

I found it was better to contact schools myself when I did supply. That way I got paid more too!

Thank you for the reply!

Do I need to register somewhere as self employed or is it possible to both work by agency and schools?

It might depend on your LEA, but you shouldn't have to register as self-employed, the school will just ask you to fill in and sign a timesheet (or make sure they do ask anyway!) and if it's your first timesheet with that LEA, they will set you up with a pay
