ting my NQT till next year. As such I want to supply 2-3 days a week this year.

I have searched through various union sites, teachernet and the North Yorkshire LEA website and found between 40-50 supply agencies.

Can anyone help me seperate the wheat from the chaff and recommend 2-3 agencies that would meet my needs?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Mike

So true Nutty ... that's what I've done in the last few weeks too and I have got 3 schools who are seriously interested (just waiting for Swine Flu to hit!!

One school have asked if they could use me through my agency rather than independently (although hopefully in the future this may change) so I've introduced the school to my agency. My agency was so pleased that they've increased my wages!!

When she did call back she told me how pleased she was that I had contacts in Somerset as they had very few schools here and wanted to expand into the area!

I thanked her politely (ish) and decided to go it alone! I have two days booked next week, two more schools who are interested and all I have done is crib and adapt Nutty's covering letter and contacted schools direct.

Good luck to you!

Chris

Hi Mike, Sorry to be a pain but can I just warn you about doing supply work before you

t your induction. This can be extended by a further 3 terms if necessary (you have to complete a form and an interview with the local LEA). At the end of these 7 terms you will no longer be allowed to teach if your induction is not underway or completed. You can work as an unqualfied teacher but only if there are no qualified teachers available to do the job. You would actually be better off getting supply work as a TA or HLTA if you intend to wait a year before applying for teaching posts. Sorry to be a bore about this but like I said I have been caught out and I am now in talks with my union and MP to try and be allowed back into teaching. The Statutory Guidance on Induction for Newly Qualified Teachers in England will tell you more - if you don't fall asleep first!

agency work would help suppliment that! But what you have wrote has certainly given me food for thought.

Wendy, again thanks for the concern, but haven't they scrapped the 4 term limit? Either that or the amount of time you have to complete your NQT. Read somewhere they have scrapped one of them, not sure which.

Anyway, going to look around the forum some more and

Hi Mike, from what I understand you can take forever before accepting a teaching position but from the first day you enter the classroom as a teacher then you have a maximum of 7 terms to complete your induction. If you do know different and can remember where you saw it please let me know cos as I said I have brought in my union and MP to try and get the law changed and they will be interested too.
