Default Quay Education, Capita and connex Supply Agencies

I have been with these 3 agencies since Nov. I haven't had as much work as I would have liked but thought I'd leave my comments about each agency.

Quay Education

Not many people have heard of this agency and I think the Liverpool Office that I am signed up with is fairly new. My consultant Kevin is lovely and its just like chatting to an old friend on the phone when he calls plus they never get annoyed if you have work elsewhere. They go out of their way to give you work - leave countless messages on home phone and mobile and even offered to give me a lift when my car was in for MOT. He also rings me every week to check my availability for the following week.

Capita
Have never had a teaching job with them only Nursery work and that is paid at an hourly rate of £7.50, don't mind the occasional nursery job and it was good around xmas when schools were closed but nurseries open but not really what I did a PGCE for! Couple of wage slips have been wrong too. Friendly consultants though and don't make you feel bad when you turn work down.

Connex
Despite having several adverts on Eteach claiming that there is a shortage of supply teachers in Merseyside and Cheshire (Is there?) this agency have never contacted me. They sent me a letter thanking me for the work I had done so far (Not worked for them yet) and reminded me to ring them each day with my availability. The other two agencies contact me so I don't see why I should need to contact them especially as they appear so desperate for supply in all their Eteach ads ...?

Most of my friends + schools in the area are with Hayes but have heard mixed opinions about them. Plus don't want to join too many agancies as they may begin to get fed up with me turning them down in favour of work with another agency. Worried about tax amount if I am registered with too many a

s too.

I am considering going to the job centre to check if I am entitled to any money when supply dries up as have had 2 weeks without work in the 8 weeks I have worked!

Thanks for that! I've never heard of Quay either, and have done a fair few searches when I started building this list...

About the tax... at the end of the financial year, when you receive your P45 from all the agencies, you can then get in touch with the Inland Revenue and ask them to review your tax for the year. You may be in for a refund if you've been paying the emergency tax code with them all, which is likely.

Please call the Inland Revenue... their computer system will prompt them if you owe money, and you'll get a fine if you don't pay it etc. but it won't prompt them if they owe you money, and you can only ask them to go back upto 6 years. It can take a while for the rebate cheque to come through too.. and don't let them fob you off with crediting your tax account with the money so they can take it off next year's bill!
