Default unions?!?!?!?

I am not registered with a union... should I be as a supply teacher? My agency have never told me to. When I was looking on the website, it constantly asked me for the name of my company and had no option for supply. Can anyone help?

In addition to this which is the best Union?

Thanks

Ok, Unions are not compulsary but I would not not be a member, for legal cover. You can get independent legal protection, but I think it's more expensive for Prof. Indemnity Insurance (Clarabelle... did you look into this recently?) I just wouldn't take the risk of a kid shouting that I'd abused them, and I once had to get my union involved when a child broke her leg during netball club.

The best? Well, NUT were the only ones to support supply teachers when schools were suddenly allowed to use cover supervisors and TAs to teach classes. I was with ATL for 10 years until they decided it was ok for schools to leave supply teachers/NQTs/part-timers/semi-retired etc. sat at home while a TA taught the class for days on end, regularly, unsupervised...

(I'll stop here before I start a big rant!)

Would you like me to check your covering letter, CV, supporting statement or application form?
