Feeling rather low....
I have applied to register with GTC Scotland with a view to moving and thus working there. They have been more than fussy and unhelpful and now I have to go there on Wednesday, in person, to plead my case!
To date it will cost me about £250 just to go there this week, including lost wages on top of the application, registration and disclosure fees already paid.
To cap it all I get a To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. y of the papers that have been submitted to the committee in preparation for Wednesday's meeting when I got home from work on Friday to find that they have not received any references, except one from a school where I do supply! Now as I sent the application form back in about September, there is no reason why they shouldn't have the references nor why they can't have told me so sooner and I could have chased them. Total inefficiency and it is now too late for me to do a thing about it!!!
Also they seem to think that as I have taught in middle school I only have experience of upper primary teaching but need to have experience of lower primary as well. Since most teachers I know would have the screaming heebeejeebees at the mere suggestion they teach in a different key stage and I do supply in both I think this is a little unfair! Do any teachers permanently employed in primary schools have any real experience of the other key stage????? I've even managed to do the odd days in early years classes without going totally insane, though I admit it was a close call!
Sorry am cross and feeling rather pessimistic about almost certainly not being able to move to Scotland. If they reject my application on wednesday, which they almost certainly will given the above, I have to work in England as a permanent primary teacher in lower primary for 3 years before going through the whole thing again! That is assuming that I can get a job in lower primary given that I don't want one, am not qualified to do one and they aren't exactly desperate for teahers in that level!
Grrrrrrrrrr, if you are still reading then sorry to be so negative. Ya never know they might love me, see what an amazing addition to their workforce I would be and let me work there anyway......I'll let you all know next weekend.

I don't know if there is anything I can say Minnie, but give you a large hug and wish you luck. You never know, being there in person to plead your case may just be what it needs. I do wish you the best of luck and send you lots of chocolate (Nutty mentioned somewhere about 95% cocoa, that must be good).

All this rot about house prices being 30% lower or something... they're paying out a small fortune on those ads everywhere... Bear/Bare that in mind on Wednesday Minnie, what a stupid state of affairs!

Also had a bad dream last night about how the plane I'm going on flew at about the level of the roofs of houses and kept landing on the road and then taking off at a super steep angle when the traffic lights on the roadside turned green. Are they deperate for teachers? Well if you watch enough TV in England you would think that we are also desperate for teachers but there are lots of NQTs who would beg to differ on that one. I knew it would be a bit tricky as I trained as a secondary teacher but now work as a primary teacher, but I didn't realise that the GTCS would be so inefficient and incompetent. I could have got references faxed or emailed to them had I know in enough time that they didn't have them. I could have got a statement from my supply agencies that I teach across both primary key stages. But to say additional information has to with them by the 24th and then tell me what they don't have on the 26th is just a nonsense!
Oh yes chocolate.......Am going to eat loads and probably drink some hot chocolate and eat cake at Luton airport on Tues afternoon/evening as OH won't be there to remind me I'm dieting and I'm missing my diet/excercise class to go to Edinburgh this week so I have another week to be really good beforeI get weighed again. A silver lining to my cloud maybes!!!!! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Right off to start to pack as don't seem to have work today either........

I had no To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. GTC were that interested in the minor details. I thought so long as you had QTS and hadn't been caught molesting children, you were in. Weird. Good luck.

Gosh what a situation, I'll be thinking of you, best of luck, I knew you had to got through a process to get into the GTCS but not that it was anything like that, havne't they got the EU directive that says EU citizens are supposed to be able to work anywhere (aside from the fac tthat they are actually still the part of the UK still?) And it does also sound like their admin is 10 x worse than GTC!! But just keep thinking that teaching is scotland must be better than england, that's what all the propoganda and research says and as far as i've seen (used to be outdoor education instructor up there) apart fro mthe rain and midges pretty much most things are better up there - even inner city Glaswegian kids!

Nasty people at the GTCS!!!!!!
They have kindly offered me registration as a probationary teacher of secondary mathematics!!!!!!!!!
This is despite being a middle school and primary teacher for the last 8 years and a secondary maths teacher for 2 years before that. soooo 10 years teaching, numeracy co-ordinator, G&T co-ordinator, dep head of year in England at various times in my career but only apparently fit to be a bloody probationary teacher in scotland!
And no I flippin DO NOT under any circumstances at all want to go back to teaching secondary school pupils!
I am obviously very very pissed off that they just didn't accept that middle schools and primary schools are almost the same thing.
But hey we went out for a very long walk today and talked about other options in England.....so watch this space.
Thanks for all the good wishes....sorry it came to nowt.
