Just did first day's supply - ohmygod
Hi everyone, I'm newbie and I think this site is fab! Had my first day's supply yesterday and it was absolutely awful! I think the agency put me into the worst Year 2 class in history To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. It's a wonder I managed to stay the whole day and I've cancelled the other arrangements I had for going back in later this week. Not professional, I know but I just couldn't face it.
Anyone any tips on keeping sanity levels normal through nasty assignments like this one? It's too early to ditch supply and go temping but the thought has crossed my mind..... To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
BTW where do you get these To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. signatures??

I know what you feel like! Been there and go the To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. ! It may be a one off or just that class or it could be a poor school which you might choose not to return to. Not all classes and schools will be as tough as this one and it is unfortunate that you have had a bad experience straight away.
Try and stick with it for a bit longer and try out other schools. You can be a bit more selective when you get a few moe schools under the belt.
One thing I do though is have little treats for myself (ie nice lunch / muffin etc at the end of the day) so that if the day is really going badly (and believe me you are not alone!) I can at least hold onto that thought, and then go home!
Hope this helps in some small way,
All the best,
RB x
PS I have refused one or two schools who I just can't face going back to. I'd rather go without than suffer it again so don't worry too much!

Thanx!
Hi RuthieB, thanks for your advice. I think I'll take your advice and I'll give a few more schools a try before making any drastic decisions. I've been teaching for only 2 years, and I came from a really good school so didn't have much of a problem with discipline before. Unfortunately, I had to move. Don't know how supply is going to work out for me but I really admire you lot for sticking at it!! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Hi MissMP! Welcome to the forum...
Sounds like you were just unfortunate! That and, after being at a lovely school where the kids knew you etc., it was probably a big shock to the system too... and the kids were bound to pick up on it... even at Y2 they know what a 'supply teacher' for the day means to them!
You'll have had high expectations from being at your last school... and these will have been shot down... maybe because the class were horrid, maybe because supply is so different... but guaranteed, you will have lovely days too!!!

Hello NuttySupplier.
Thanks for advice. I think you're right about it being a shock to the system. I miss my old school To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Sorry to hear it wasn't a good experience. But the others are right, it will get better, you will have some great days and some days where you wonder why you bother!
You expectations will lower - in a nice sense! as you will not have the time to enforce your rules/expectations fully on the class.
Overall if you hate the school/class, just think that it is only for a day and be thankful you dont work there permenantly!!!! Definitely don't give up yet.
If you think back, especially to the early days, you probably had a few bad days at your old school as well. It is horrid when a bad day happens to be a first day, but hey one of the beauties of supply is we never have to go back if we don't want to. Imagine you had got a job there and were stuck with that class all year!!!!
You will get some nice classes on supply and as you get settled you will be asked back to schools time and again. It is lovely when children bounce up and down when you walk into the playground and say 'Miss you're with my class this afternoon'. Ok it is less nice when they say 'Oh god we got you again then miss?' but hey ya can't win em all!
Just have sweets in your bag, make sure they are suitable for vegetarians (ie no gelatine!) get your self some stickers and you be will fine. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Well obviously, whatever else would they be for???!!!
A headteacher once told me, in all seriousness, that as her school was hoping to win a healthy schools award I shouldn't give the children sweets as a reward at any time and to possibly try sunflower or To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. I just nodded and used stickers at that school!

Thanks for all your kind advice. I've kept at it and now I've found a school who has booked me up for a few more days.
