Default new year wishes and hopes (NOT resolutions!)

Well I warned you, and have put it off for a

of days while I was thinking but here it is!!

So what are you hoping for this year, what do you want to achieve, start, try, finish, hope will happen. THings to improve / enhance yourself, your life.

Here's some of mine, some are obvious! but they mean a lot to more, so sorry if this feels a bit like a journal but i'm qualifying them with reasons! Might mean its a bit serious!

Get a job, full time, regular.
I really need this, I only enjoy doing supply becuase it means I can still teach and be with children. As I haven't got a full time job the only other option would be non-teaching job which would not make me happy. But the instability of supply and lack of the reassurance / support and of course money means I really don't know how long I can do this. So this year it will be a regular job - hopefully teaching if not - something that I don't yet know.

Have a date - hopefully find a partner.
I don't like being single, i'm not really designed for it, I do not do well on my own and as i'm a bit too old and quiet to be living in shared house, i really want a significant other to share my life with! I know that's not going to happen immediately, but i'm sick of the commitment phobic men that I have met in the last few years!

Get outside more - by the end of the year, climbed a mountain or two!
As some of you might know I ended 2005 with a serious back injury after a car crash, I've lived with a back problem for 10 years but thistime it has really curtailed my outdoor activities, so this year, I will really get back to fitness so I can get outdoors which should also make me feel happier!

Learn a new skill, really get involved in something other than school!!
Not sure what this will entail yet but I know I have the propensity to lose myself in being a teacher and do little else. I can't be outside climbing mountains / riding bikes all the time, therefore I need something else to occupy me. I'm kinda thinking about

graphy, just need a better camera! The other one might be to learn more knitting / sewing - at least I can do that when the weather / my back is bad!

Sort out my house!!
Again, to make me feel happier I want my house to feel like a nice place to be - that doesn't embarass me! So there's DIY to do and some serious thinking about how I want it to look!

Well those are my hopes, kinda sounds a bit woolly and daunting, but hopefully in some shape or form I will achieve them. So the last

there are easy steps to take to start - the first, I'm not so sure about as it doesn't just depend on me. But we'll see.

So over to you - you don't have to be quite as revealing and serious as me, but I jsut wanted to get these

s down and then I can look back later and see what I was thinking and where i've got to with my life!

Ok, my turn - warning, I'm sure there's a waffling essay brewing inside!

Have been thinking about this for a while now, but then out with a friend last night, decided on my first, as it's his too (he's 60 in 4 years, and is writing a list of 60 things he wants to do/achieve/learn before his birthday.)

Personal Challenge - Climb Scafell, Snowdon and Ben Nevis.
I climbed Snowdon about 10 years ago, with beer towels wrapped around my knees to stop the burning (bad knees!) which I frequently dipped in the stream alongside the paths to keep them

! Unjustifiably terrified about doing Scafell. There are too many postcards/posters round here of the scary bits, and too many stories of tourist climbers getting lost/hurt on the tops! Said friend isn't bothered about doing them this year, just wants to start getting fitter in order to do them within the next four. I'd be happy to do it on this time scale, as long as we set dates and targets this year. I would love to start by walking up the smallest hill in Cumbria one weekend, then the next smallest the weekend after etc., but we'll have to see... we're going to talk about it seriously next time we meet... skiteacher, you'll have to come with us when we do them!

Healthy Living - Here it is again - lose 4 stone.
Fed up again. Mum is on a diet, but then, she has been since I can remember, so for about 25 years now, which means she was on a diet when she was my age, and still is. I've wanted to lose weight since I was 8, and have had two years when I've been happy with my weight, and unlike those people who lose tonnes and then are unhappy/hubby runs off with a fat woman, I was really happy at that time, I had so much more confidence, therefore better social life, therefore etc. etc.
I've started a log of what I do on my treadmill. I've had it nearly a year and been on it about five times so far. We try and fit so much into our days OH and I, that the treadmill is very low down on my priority list. We've pushed it up to the top priority for me on three days a week, after work. It's really getting serious now. My BMI is 31, and apparently should be 22, which is exactly 4 stone. I chose 4 stone as that was the weight I was when I had happy 2 years. Didn't realise that was my

l weight etc. too. I've also been warned of diabetes by the Dr, but let it wash over me, and wouldn't have a clue if I had a lump in my breast or not as they're too bloody big and lumpy as it is with fat! As I have to have a cervical smear every 3 months to monitor some nastiness, I really need to get myself sorted better than this.

Lifestyle - Work on my social life.
The

we meet up with 3 times a week for a drink are expecting a baby in April. As they live half an hour away, down windy Cumbrian roads, it isn't going to be practicle to meet them that often when baby arrives! We'll always be the ones driving to them, and it won't be in a pub. OH and I are seriously ingrained into our own little lives in our little barn, and have very little contact with the world outside the window. We need new friends! We spent New Year's Eve alone with the

Well, we didn't make an effort to find another choice either, which isn't good! The only real friend I've

e of my own since I moved here 5 years ago is going to spend 6 months of the year every year from now on in Spain, so there goes another. Choir, well, no-one else there under 63 at least, though they are lovely ladies! So. Since s-i-l bought me such a lovely gift, and they've got two kids, and we really want to be good aunty & uncle to these kids who don't even recognise who we are yet, we're going to make more of an effort with them. Also, I've joined a local class run by an excellent teacher, it's harmony singing - actually the class where I met my spanish dwelling friend 5 years ago! Going to do that again this term, will give me loads of

s for the school choir warm-ups etc. too. Also OH is going to join the local canoe club properly... he leads a lot of their white-water activities as it is, but he's not a member and so can't go to the social activities and other canoeing days (e.g. they have BBQs with families invited on the side of Coniston during the summer months with races across the other side and back!) There're 300 members of this club, so should be good fun when we make that effort!

Misc - Get the roof on the lounge!
You might have heard me mention that we're renovating and extending our house? The new lounge extension hasn't had a roof on it for 18 months now! A lot of the jobs we can do in smaller stints, and they hardly cost us anything at the moment, but we know we need £5k to get the lounge sorted so we have put it off, necessarily, as we haven't had the money. The blocks are now saturated and have pondlife living in them, so we really need to stop playing with insulating lofts etc., and save the money to get the roof on this summer!

Misc - Make sure the house is 'visitor-friendly' at any time.
A bit like yours I expect skiteacher! We actively discourage people from coming to see us as we always need at least a days' notice to get the house anywhere near being clean and tidy enough to be exposed to the public! It's not just breeze blocks and timbers lying around, it's the kitchen/

We're doing well at the moment, it's still ok from having been blitzed in prep for my folks coming for Christmas and as we've OH's parents coming tomorrow re: his job etc. we've managed to keep on top of it!

I'll stop now, as OH has just commented that I'll get RSI from typing this one post if I'm not careful!

Here we go...

Get a Teaching job
I really need to get at least some of my NQT year done - and if I've not at least got a job waiting for me after next Christmas, I'm giving up - 2.5 years is long enough to feel like I'm useless

of years, and I really want to get going with some of the designs I've got.

At least decorate the whole house
The house is a complete mess at the moment - we need quite a bit of work doing on it, but without a regular income, it ain't getting done. So this year, my hope is something cheaper - just to get it looking presentable

Get finances sorted
Even though my income changes from month to month, I really want to get where we are living quite comfortably, with money in the savings account.

Here's hoping we get some of these hopes completed by the end of the year

Get more organised - Hubbie and I are both as bad as each other for mess and losing things, and now we have more space to lose things we MUST be more organised.

Have a bit of a social life - kind of ties in with see more of my friends, but feel as if I have hardly been out recently!

The other plan for 2007 is secret - will let you know if we keep it!!!

Well it sounds like some of us have got quite similar wishes. Fitness, social life and houses!
Nutty, it certainly sounds like you have thought a lot about this like me. But also - reading your entry - a lot of them do link up - getting fit / losing weight / climbing mountains / meeting people!! The canoe club certainly sounds interesting - though all the canoe clubs i've known have been quite crazy!
I'd be pleased to join you on mountain excursions and like you need to do some small ones first. I have done the 3 peaks challenge - in 24 hours, so have done scarfell a

of times - always in crap conditions and one time it was quite scary! Ben Nevis and Snowdon (depending on the path you take are so much easier and I think more interesting - though I think the Lake district is the most interesting of the 3 areas!)

So I how we do start to work towards our goals / wishes! I did start a bit today - in that I went out to the local RSPB reserve with a friend today - though it really wasn't the weather for it! But today weather experience has put me off going out with my outdoor activity club on a walk tomorrow - don't feel like getting soaked 2 days running!

And i'm quite intrigued about Footies surprise!
