I have just had a telephone call from ISS (Intelligent Salary Services)
They say they can save me tax and manage my pay

through Supply Desk. £13 a day subsistance allowence (tax free), travel expences @40p per mile for the first 1000 (I don't usually travel that far).

This will be at a cost of 3% of cost of invoice (I assume earnings?)

Does anyone else do this? Is it worth it?

Please advise.

4. How and where do I send my time sheets?
You will need to follow your agencies instructions for submitting time sheets.
5. What is the cost to join ISS?
There is no initial set up cost. The only charge is a fee of 3% of the value of each
invoice. There are no charges if you are not invoicing. This means that if you are on holiday or not

are not required to send in supporting evidence.
8. How do I submit my Travel Expenses?
You can claim travel expenses for your transport through the ISS website. If you are claiming
mileage, you must submit this online. Simply follow the mileage claim guide available on the site.
Mileage is calculated at 40p per mile for the first 10 000 miles, and 25p thereafter. If you are using
public transport, you must get in to the habit of collecting RECEIPTS for your ticket purchases.
Attach these to the travel claim form and post them regularly to:

Travel expenses are tax offsets, which means that by submitting an expense claim, you will not pay
tax on the value of the claim. The amount extra in your pocket will depend on the amount of tax
you are liable to pay. This will therefore reduce your taxable income and will not be a full
reimbursement.

ISS will post your P45 upon your last payment being

e. Your P60 will be issued at the end of
the financial year.
10. What is National Insurance?
You pay National Insurance contributions to build up your entitlement to certain social security
benefits, including the State Pension. The type and level of NIC you pay depends on how much
you earn and whether you’re employed or self employed. You pay NICs if you are an employee or
self-employed and you are aged 16 and over, providing your earnings are more than a certain
level. You stop paying NICs at State Retirement age.
11. What is PAYE tax?
PAYE is an acronym for Pay As You Earn. This tax is deducted from the portion of your pay that is
salary.
12. Will I get a tax refund?
You will only be entitled to a refund if you have paid more PAYE tax than you should have.
There is no recourse to refunds for National Insurance.
13. Do I have to submit a personal tax return?
You will only need to complete a Tax Return in these circumstances:
- If you are liable to tax at the higher rate, or
- If you have any other untaxed income.
14. Where can I find information on claiming overpaid tax?
You will find information on claiming tax back via the Tax Refunds link on the site.
15. Do I get holiday pay?
Holiday pay and sick pay are included in your rate of pay.

Sorry its so long.

Never heard of them. And sorry, couldn't face reading the details. I'm terribly like that - I've still got long overdue pension documentation to send back because I can't face reading it. Hopefully someone else will have a more responsible attitude than me and they'll be able toa dvise you.

Sounds like a con to me... I've read through, and don't see what they're actually doing for you, other than claiming tax relief on your travel expenses, on your behalf, which you can't really do as a supply teacher, and if you could, it's easy enough to do yourself, and I'm not sure would amass to 3% of your earnings, which is what they're after...

I was given some information from an agency about a company called Key or something similar. I skimmed it quickly and it sounded a bit like a con to me - they were implying you could protect/guarantee your salary. It sounded a bit like a con to me, but to be fair I didn’t really read it properly!

I also asked on TES and it seems as yet no one had said they used them. I don't think it will make that much difference and I will sort out tax in apr, if they owe me some money.

them up then ring supply desk and see what they say, presumably you work for them. If supply desk hasn't heard of them then I think you can assume it is a massive con and that supply desk's website is not secure and they have nicked your details from there. If supply desk approve and recommend them, then maybe go ahead.

As the company is based in ark I assume it is someone with not much to do there trying to earn some money on the side. Don't blame them, if all goes to plan in a

Supply desk mentioned it at interview so I think it is legit I was just wondering if it was worth while and to see if it was common practice to do this.
