Default Leaving the classroom tidy

Have spent the last 2 days with the same class. I had the head come to me today and in a 'jokingly' way she said you will leave the classroom tidy as Mrs X is very funny about things' Now the teacher I was covering for came back to school last night after I had left to leave me the work for today. She must have complained but I don't know what about. I honestly don't know how I could have left it any neater. The only thing that would have looked out of place was a neat pile of spare worksheets left. I didn't want to throw them away as she might have wanted to save them.

I have done the same thing today, short of licking the carpet clean there was nothing else left to do!

Some teachers are unbelievable, don't stress about it. If you've left as it was when you came in that's the best you can do.

I had my HT tell me to make sure the children left the library as we found it this week fraggle... she's very particular about it... we'd only gone in there to listen to a story, what could they do?! Was paranoid about fluffing the cushions at the end of the day!

If a teacher is funny about how tidy it should be, then they'll never be happy after a supply teacher has been in to be honest. I think that's like life in general isn't it? No matter what I do to the room when I leave my mum's house after a weekend, she always finds something to say to me in the next phone call along the lines of 'the tiebacks on the curtains were the wrong way round!' There's only me and OH use the bloody room!!!

Maybe you should spend time sweeping the floor instead of marking and that might make her happy?

I tend to leave the classroom as tidy as the children make it when I ask them to clear away. I am fussy about them tidying up and hassle them about papaer and pencils on the floor and chairs. I sure as eggs do not go round myself clearing stuff away. The children do their things and I do mine and that is it.

Sometimes I think the ones who make the most fuss about how messy you leave their room are the ones who have the messiest rooms in the first place.

My class target this term is a clean and tidy classroom - if they get five stars this term they win 5 pounds to spend in the classroom. If they dont leave it tidy its there responsibility and they get a real grilling for it. Their room, their mess, their responsibility!!

Am a bit of a clean freak as a supply teacher. Went into a Y5 class yesterday after another supply had been in for the morning, spent 15 mins tidying teacher's desk and random book piles on the floor, then got the kids to do their stuff when they came in.

I can't stand messiness, it distracts me from the teaching.

Sounds like some teachers take the p*** a bit though!

I love making a mess with the kids... as long as they tidy it up! Not into that at all!

I'm with you on the teacher's desk though... always make sure it's spotless and ordered before I leave... though do tend to leave water bottles lying around... at least they're not half empty coffee cups festering over the weekend!

I'm with you Nutty! Nowt like a messy Art/D+T lesson! Kids are actually pretty good at tidying up - ask each child to find 5 bits of mess to tidy up and you're tidy in no time! Or have a "mystery mess" for children to search for and bring to you. If they find the "mess" you spotted, they get a prize/sticker! They love it! I usually just leave the class how I found it. Don't normally touch the teacher's desk - wouldn't want to disturb anything important and get into trouble!

I must confess to being a complete tidy freak. I'm always getting in trouble for throwing away important bits of paper (what's wrong with e-mail?) and my desk is almost always completely empty when I leave in the evening. I suspect I'm somewhere "on the spectrum" I've got a supply in on Monday as I'm on a course (for the benefit of newer members, I'm not on supply any more), but I wouldn't dream of giving anyone a hard time unless it was a complete tip.
