Has anyone done supply in one? Just agreed to do a day on Monday. Thought I had nothing to loose and could be a really good experience for me. Its a school for those with severe and profound learning difficulties.

What do you think? Am I

I think you're very brave. I don't think I could do it.

Ooooh! Now there's one! I don't know... it'd be great experience, maybe an eye opener, certainly stand you in good stead for when you go into a difficult mainstream class! Depends on the nature of the learning difficulties I expect.... could be lots of fun! I'd love to do it...

Wonder if Jogr8 sees this message?

I'd say its definitely worth giving a chance. It's not something which I have ever done, but my friend who started supply before me did some in a secondary special school and she is just starting her third year there as they offered her a permanent job!!! She absolutely loves it. So i'd say give it a go and see, she did her induction year in it as well.

Thanks for the positive replies.

From looking at the website it appears that most of the children have severe physical disabilities etc. Don't think that I would have been quite ready to take it on if it had been an EBD school.

Go for it and see what happens. I'm trying to sort out volunteering in a special school with a view to supply (they only take supply teachers who have previously volunteered there)
But I expect you will be fine - there will be tonnes of other adults - TA / LSA's, support workers to help you out.

e with that. Anyway of course it was completely different, there were 5 of them and I didn't really have to properly teach anything and I had a lovely TA who knew everything. Simple work was left but the teacher said we could do whatever we wanted so we spent the day improving our communication skills (chatting)

Glad you enjoyed it. I worked in a special school on supply last year, they asked me back on a regular basis and now I work there full time.
I'm primary though, however the age group is very different to main stream- yr 5/6 used to scare me in main stream but mine are little loves ( well most of the time!!!) its rather like teaching reception, everything has to explained well and kept simple and practical
