for a job for over a year now. I have had two years worth of contracts but always temporary - then at the end of 2004/2005 i was told my contract was not being renewed and have not been able to get a job since

I have applied for just about every job going (trying not to seem desperate!) had quite a few interviews and always been told i just miss out!
I have managed to get a 0.4 contract that has just been extended till march but its not really what i want. I know its a job and i should be grateful that i'm not trying to get day to day supply but its really frustrating!!

Anyway (will get to the point now!) what's a good alternative career for an infant teacher who can't seem to get a job? Something that pays about £1000+ a month.

Sorry, just feeling really down at the moment

My dream was to get a full-time job so that i can finally buy my own horse and it has all gone down the pan now

I don't know about alternative careers, it's a very personal decision... except to say, remember you're a professional, and you have managed a team of around 30 dependant individuals, many with seperate workloads... try to look at the teaching you've done, and equate it to 'office positions', you've more people management experience than most personnel positions require probably... it's just they don't see it that way... how about helping them see it that way if something like that takes your fancy? Maybe little industry experience, but all the skills, and little people are harder (in some ways!) to deal with than big people!

I know exactly how you feel NQT2003, I am findign it really hard to get a job since having to leave my job at easter. I am also not that sure about supply (I've only had 3 days this term) as i'm really not that confident - i want something where I can get into a routine.
Everyday, especially when another shortlisting passes and I haven't been selected, I rack my mind as to what I can do. I've spent 10years wor

with children, and it's what I want to do and I really don't know what else i could do, want to do. I'm not very good at doing things i don't like, I need to really get into a job. I also ahve the problem of needing to earn to pay the mortgage wish I often wish I didn't have so I could accept a less well paid job.
So, yes, like Nutty said it's a very personal thing, if you want to stay in edu

Good luck, go to a careers centre? Within 2 years of graduating you can still use your old uni one, or careers centres (i.e. Connexions) do have adult advisors or at least will have resources to help i.e. career assessment programmes and lots of info on different jobs.

It is hard, because there are too many NQTs out there, but try to keep going - it isn't you, supply just outstrips demand. I've only just got my first permanent contract and that's two years after qualifying. The right job will come along, and doing supply is the best way to get your name around and to hear about the jobs.

It looks like things are finally on the up!

Was out today and missed a call on my mobile - it was from a head at one of the schools i used to do supply at saying they needed a FT teacher for September! Going in on Monday to confirm/discuss job but ... it looks like i've finally got a fulltime job. Its only guaranteed for a term at the moment but you never know!!
