Default Fantastic school, lovely staff and great kids!

I spent 3 days in a wonderful school. It is quite a drive from home though, I have to leave early to avoid rush hour (7:30am) and even then it takes a good hour to get there but I don't mind because it is just GREAT!
I have been there before and the school requested me back.
The work is always set even if the teacher is off sick at the last minute. It is a 2 form entry and the other teacher prepares resources, plans etc ready. If you are on break duty then you get a 15-20 min break whilst a HLTA covers your class. There is loads of non contact time because of assemblies so most of the marking can be done then. The supply manual is brilliant - every single detail is thought of; behaviour policy, marking, daily routine .......

I was booked for 2.5 days with Y2 but got roped into taking Y6 for an afternoon - would normally run a mile if I was asked to do this in any other school but the class were lovely - well behaved, polite and lots of fun. I did a salsa dance lesson (Great fun!!) then they revised for sats (read revision guides quietly and some tested each other!) then the last half hour was non contact time as it was hymn practice

Ahhhh heaven!!!!!
They asked me to do a full week there next week but I had been booked elsewhere

Fantastic jogr8, sounds like a teacher's heaven. What kind of school is it (religious?) sometimes the discipline etc seems better in those schools. Hopefully, lots more next term.
Enjoy the weekend

Getting a break after break duty sounds like heaven! Everyone just accepts that you work straight through usually... what a school! Shame about next week... I'd have cancelled the other I think!

A school I go to does all the assemblies either straight after lunch, or at the end of the day, rather than first thing in the morning... much better for me... there's only so much reading of the plan you can do while they're in assembly, especially if you got there an hour earlier! Lovely to have half an hour in the afternoon to get marking done...

Long may your work at the school continue!!!

Yeah Nutty - its a catholic school.

Quite glad that I'm not working there next week because the transport workers are on strike on Tuesday so the toll tunnel I use is closed which would mean I would have to get a train and bus which would be a nightmare as it takes so long to get there even by car!

Is that the same Union as the dinner ladies etc. then? I never thought about transport workers (don't have any up here!), don't really know the extend of the strike... must make an effort to read the news...

I think it probably is the same strike as the dinner ladies cos our toll tunnel is also closed as well as the school I am working at for the mo so I have a day off, yay and BF says to just have day off instead of looking for other supply, v. surprising!! I think a lot of schools up here are closing as my little brothers school is also closed.

The agency hasn't told me about any schools shutting so I'm going to go in anyway!

I think it might just be a few schools, I know of 3 in my area who are definitely closed, but i'm sure the agencies would mention it if there was any where you are. Might be worth checking just in case as they may have forgotten about the supply teacher.

I'm not working tomorrow, car's having her MOT, but presumably if either of my kid's schools are closed they will give us notice?? All new to me, people don't strike in overseas schools!

Your kids schools would have let you know by now I'm sure!

Ours is closed because the caretaker, cleaners, dinner ladies and TAs are all in this union... therefore we can't provide the compulsory free school meals or support... also, apparently they're not insured for locking/unlocking school, only the caretaker is! I'm not sure about that, I always did it at my last school, first one to arrive, last one to leave, we also have portacabins, so I definitely locked mine each night!
