Ive heard of a few problem solving activities that may be ok.... Finding all Possibilities is a good one. Write up a 5/6 (any size could vary it) digit number then ask ch. to find as many 2 digit (or 3, 4etc) numbers. Ask ch. to find best strategy to ensure they find them all. Or you could do a similar thing with To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. ...Another is to give each ch. a chess board and ask them to find all the squares (whole board, 1by1, 2by 2 etc.) These can be tricky to mark, I used to just look over what they had done with my class.
Think I got these To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. s from a website, teaching To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. s.co.uk i think or from an INSET day. Either way they're easy to add extensions to so keeps ch. busy and teaches them the basic problem solving strategy of finding all possibilities.
Hope it might be of some help....nightmare that you have to plan it!!! You shouldnt have to, especially not knowing their ability and stuff.
Good luck,
