Default Y5 tomorrow

I've got Y5 tomorrow afternoon - i'm assuming that some work has been left - but any suggestions/tips? Haven't taught Y5 before and am a little nervous!

Hi... year 5 are lovely... you can have a great conversation/

with them, without them being too cheeky like y6!

The y5s this year, don't know if anyone else has found this (I see trends in year groups from school to school!) seem to like little silly games and challenges (year 6 like quizzes.)

As it's prebooked, there should be planning for you, I'm sure you'll be fine.. but Lit: y5 love Roald Dahl stuff... there's a link to the website somewhere on here, I think they could be on persuasive writing, how about a letter to Mr Wonka persuading him to let them in? Num: times tables stuff! You can never do enough work with them on it!

Have just discovered a fab website

which has worksheet generators on it... Everyone, please look! Print off some of the Scrambled Egg sheets etc. for time fillers!

Be firm, have fun... Let us know how you get on!

Default I'll be thinking of you

I've got y5 tomorrow too and really not looking forward to it. I've been with y1 the last two days and loved it.
Was speaking to the Headteacher at the school I was in today and when I mentioned the school I'm in tomorrow with Y5 he and the Deputy gave each other a very worrying stare, the Head then

Oh no! Still, mightn't be that bad... schools do tend to look down on eachother!

Hope you both have a great day filled with happy, helpful kids and lots of proper chocolate (keep a stash in your bag for break/assembly/lunch/getting changed for PE time/etc!)

Just tell the kids to ignore it! I've used interactive games like that and the kids just don't pay attention to the "evaluation" sign!

I have followed a link previously (can't remember where) that sent me to those egg sheets minus the evaluation only sign but I can't remember where I saw the link!

Well done nqt2003!

It really does depend on the school as to what the years 5 and 6 are like - there are some schools where I won't teach higher than year 4, others where I will teach year 6 and 7 at a push!

Jogr8 - how did you get on?

Well done NQT, I feel the same with a new year group, but have been jotting down what I do with each class (when I have time) so if I get year 6 (or whatever again) I can do the same lesson if I have to (diff. schl of course) and know what to do!!!
Also I am planning to take this book if I have an interview to show what I've been doing!
