Default Please help!!!!!

Well, today I had a very quick performance management meeting where I've basically been told I have to take on the role of ICT leader/coordinator. I only work 2 days a week at this school and I think that this is a big ask!!!!! I have never been a subject leader I am ashamed to say so I wouldn't even know where to begin!!!!! I have suggested that maybe I could share the leadership with the teacher that has newly completed her NQT year but that was faced with a probable no (the head will be asked about this). I don't knw whether I'm being unreasonable as I do not

e well with stress and extra responsibility. Will I get paid more? Do I HAVE to accept the position? It was not outlined in my interview at all when I came to the job. Please help!!!! I feel like I know nothing - not even the simplicities of what to do in the position or when to do it. I have asked for training. Is it possible to do this position in when I only work 2 days?????

Ok, have done a bit of research, and yes, I am expected to take on a subject leadership position. But ICT is MASSIVE!!!! It encompasses ALL subjects and I don't think I can

e. I refuse to work outside my designated days as I won't be getting paid for that and I have been told that I'll be given 1/2 day each term for my subject (is this true?). I've asked to go on a course too. I really am not an expert with ICT (would prefer a position like art coordinator if it was up to me but that has already been chosen). Please help!!!! I feel really trapped and stressed!!!!!

Sounds like you picked the short straw!

Seems crazy to ask you to lead a subject which you have no specialism/expertise in!

It's hard but in primary schools, subjects do need to be shared out but ICT, as you say, is a big one and would be led better by someone who feels comfortable using the technology involved.

I would probably go back and explain my lack of knowledge and my need for training before I could take on a role permanently. You will need support to take on the role and it would be better if you could share it (or better still, could lead a different subject!)

Hope you get it sorted.

Oh Clarabelle, what a nightmare.

I'd be completely honest from the get go. Make it clear that it's not that you don't want to lead a subject, but ICT is such a huge thing and it just seems bonkers to have someone only in part-time to lead on something that's at the heart of the curriculum. FInd out if there's someone you can share with or shadow whilst you get training and get our head round the whole thing.

At the end of the day, it's in the school's interest to support you to 1) do a good job 2) not end up going on the sick from the stress.

Thanks peeps!

I went directly to the head teacher yesterday and explained my feelings. I said that if I did have to have a subject, I'd rather it be a smaller one(s) like art/D+T. She said not to worry, that's the last thing she wants me to do. She was really nice!!!!! My jobshare teacher who told me I have to do it wasn't as nice!!!!
