Default Still no work

Hi.

I was promised by the agency that there would be work so I moved to London - I moved in with a friend but still need to pay my way. Been here for 3 weeks now and I am getting seriously short on cash and still no work at all. I go home every weekend to see my fiance. I am wondering whether or not to stay home next week or come to London. The agencies just keep telling me that it should pick up next week, it should pick up next week, but I only really have enough cash for one more week so if I am here for a week and still have no work, I wont have any money left.

So here is my dilemma - be in London for next week and risk another week of absolutely no work, or go back to West Sussex for the week where I get free food thanks to the fiance's parents, and risk that I could have work offered and then have to turn it down.

What do you all suggest?

Hi,
It is tough at this end of term but it really should start picking up in the next week or 2.

But why do you need to be in London? There are plenty of schools in West Sussex! Whereabouts in WS are you based?
I'm in a village in WS and have plenty of work so maybe you need to talk to a few local schools and/or an agency. Class Cover in Billingshurst (and I think they may have another base) are a good agency - have you tried talking to them?
Have you got a car? That would obviously give you more options.

There are a number of reasons for London. Firstly I have a friend here who is happy for me to live with her, and in West Sussex I live with my fiance's parents, which is difficult. Secondly I don't drive, so it is easier in London with the transport. And thirdly, I just really like London and have always wanted to live here.

However, one of the agencies did say that have a base in West Sussex, so I could get some work through them if I decide to stay around West Sussex for a week or so

Well then, I think you should stick it out in London - maybe until half term - and see whether things pick up for you.

Keep checking with your agency, badgering them to give you any work that comes in. Hopefully after one visit to a school, they will be happy to use you again and you could become a regular visitor.

Good luck

Supply's really slow in the South East generally at the moment. I'm so gutted. Yesterday I had a lovely day booked in a Reception class but I'e caught a huge cold and have a chest infection so had to call in sick

so I could go to the doctors. Luckily I've got antibiotics now and am on the mend but guess what? No phone call this morning! I've got lots of housework to do but I just feel bad that OH is having to go off to work whilst I don't earn any money. I do have work for rest of the week which is a bonus. At least we're all in the same boat!

You should work them out. Even if they're a little soar, they had a day of rest so it'd be best to be consistent with your workouts. Try to workout 3-4 days a week.

Default Bad time of the year

Hi there

From my perspective as a finance governor, money is really tight at the moment in schools and you may not realise but schools work on a financial year from April to April like other businesses, even though they run academic years, so March is really tight for many schools as they try and stretch the bit of money they have left. Without going into too much boring detail, the financial software systems that most schools use isn't great at projecting cash flow and costings so many schools are left not really knowing how much money they have left at the end of the financial year, so avoid spending any if they possibly can. The only exception to this is Academies who run on an academic year financial basis. I had loads of work before half term (having only started into January) but have had nothing since - so I'm hoping my financial insight is what's stopping my work over here, too, and that it will pick up soon!!
