Default Advice gratefully accepted.

I am about to begin work in North London as a Cover Supervisor. Before you all shout me down (as I know many people have issues with Cover Supervisor and understandably so) I am doing it for a year before I can do my training to become a teacher because I had to postpone my PGCE due to financial reasons. I felt that being a Cover Supervisor would be a great chance to learn and enhance the skills needed to eventually become a good teacher.

But I've not had any training. I only know what I know through my own experiences volunteering in schools (which I have done a lot) and through reading books. But I'd like to talk to some experienced supply and cover supervisors. I'd like to develop those skills that help in the job. If anyone can advise me, please do.

Thanks

Hi amberzak,

Sounds like you've got a great plan - getting super experience before embarking on your PGCE.
Good luck!

I'm assuming you're planning on working in secondary schools - what will your specialism be?

There's loads of great advice on this forum if you have a look through or please feel free to ask specific questions - there's always someone on here that knows the answer!

Hi. Thanks for getting back to me.

I will be specialising in English, Media and Drama, though a friend of mine who is a head teacher keeps telling me I should also mention that I am good at maths too because she thinks I could teach it. I am really good at Maths (better at maths than English ironically).

I did search the forums, but i am not sure how much of it is different from a cover supervisor role. I think mainly I am looking for somewhere to talk through how things are going etc, but I know that there isn't really very good feelings towards cover supervisors, so I didn't want to offend anyone by talking in their threads or anything.
