Default job hunting again????

I took a part time temporary contract as an HLTA teaching maths to KS2 low ability children. I was quite pleased to be told that I would be kept on in a full time capacity as I thought this would give me a more relaxed way to look for a teaching post, Finally, 2 days before the end of term, I was told my duties. I will carry on with my 4 SEN Y4 children for maths. Every other Thursday I will cover management time in Y3 and provide cover when anyone is off in Y3 and Y4. So what do I do when no-one is off? Twiddle my thumbs? Without being big headed I am sure that this is a waste of my skills. I am expected to go round the classes touting for work in the afternoons! Can they do this or should I be given specific tasks? Now panic

That's bloody terrible Wendy, it is a complete waste of your skills (I reckon), I can understand why you did it but would you be better off going back on supply?

This sort of situ makes me

Yeah, you're going to feel very frustrated on that! I don't think I could ever do TA duties, I'd always want to butt in!!!! I worked with SEN children within their own mainstream classes in the afternoons and I often took small groups out to teach (same lesson) separately. Often the 'naughty' kids who benefitted from small group teaching and gave the teacher a break! So maybe you could do that? Do you have a specialist subject like Art? Maybe you could offer to teach classes? Are you paid just as a HLTA as opposed to a Teacher? Doesn't supply pay more? I would go back to supply personally.

I agree with “Audrey” it is such a waste of your skill, I just say you should continuously apply for permanent teaching post. I’m sure by these skill you will get a good job in the future.
