What do I do? Do I forget about teaching altogether as new teachers are being churned out every year.
I have been given an extension till Sept 2010 to begin my induction. What is the best thing to do?

You can do it part time I think I remember, have you applied for part time posts too? Maybe register with some agencies and see if they can get you a regular post at a school, or a longer term contract. Other's will know better on here but I think you can

Hi I'm in the same position as you. I qualified in 2005 and have applied for almost 100 posts (not many around in such a rural place). I worked as a supply teacher until September last year, mostly in the same school for 3 years. The Government stance is that from the first day you work in a school for payment you have a total of 5 terms in which to

Good luck in whatever you decide.

I might be a bit out of date with NQT data, you mentioned that you have an extension until September 2010, given your circumstances could this not be extended further?

I don't think supply is helpful as that uses up the time you have to complete your induction. I think you have to keep hunting for a post where you can get your induction out of the way. Would it be possible to search further afield just to complete your induction?

Lots of jobs will start to be advertised from March onwards, May will be really busy and you might pick up something after May when teachers on contracts have sorted out their moves.

You've got a bit of time yet. Good luck.

straight away in a shop and work there for 20 years and then decide to take up teaching and look for a job which will undertake your NQT year. It is only if you have stood in front of a class and been paid as a teacher that you become restricted to having only 5 terms in which to pass your induction. Experience counts for nothing it's those hoops you have to jump through!

I guess the weird logic is that if you were to leave it 20 years before starting your Induction you would find it difficult to pass (assuming a school would employ you after 20 years out) as you would be very out of date.

Thank you for the replies. I am still applying, sometimes going to visit schools miles away. Its costing so much to visit schools, I've decided not to visit anymore. Will keep applying though.
