I've never gone in on a day I wasn't at work, which was quite easy for me as I live over half an hour from the schools I contracted to, so really was very rarely asked, and always pre-empted it and had a reason not to go in! Like checking the school diary too, I had to do this each morning as I arrived to make sure I knew what was happening for the next few days. But they can't make you go in - don't, unless it's in your interests more than spending the unpaid time on yourself! I'd have gone in if we had a pre-Ofsted meeting perhaps for my own sanity, or a twilight INSET that I particularly was interested in, and thought might be fun - it's my day off!
