Series of one offs
So, last week the school I was at had class teacher I was covering for and her TA out, me left with 34 Reception kids solo, and more than one difficult child to contend with To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. This afternoon, the teacher I was covering for was an NQT who clearly didn't want to leave her precious darling babies to the tender mercies of 'the supply' To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. I'm a TEACHER, I don't want to take a nursery nurse's job....and when I finally rang the other agency about the text they sent offering work it had gone. The work, that is, not the agency.
You know, to the school, the teacher and the agency, it's just a one off to be offhand or make our job harder - but sometimes, on supply, it can be a week's worth of 'one offs' - like 5 PE lessons To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Sorry to hear you're having a difficult time.
It works both ways though.
I wasn't happy with the supply teacher who covered my class last week. It was a bit of a last minute booking and I had a reason for wanting to send my class home at the end of the day, so I asked if she could be tidied up about 15 minutes before the end of the day, which she did. I said thank you and that would give her a bit of extra marking time, I had To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. But, instead of marking or waiting to feed back to me she just cleared off early! I wasn't impressed!

Oh dear glad you've had a good rant sounds like you needed it. I know what you mean or at least I think I can remember what it's like (phonecalls still lacking in this direction).
Although I desparately need the dosh I have had a crap time of late:my dad was rushed into hospital last Tuesday with pneumonia, on the wednesday morning he had a heart attack - but no one told any of us until the friday when a dr took me away from his hospital bed (intensive care) to fill me in with how ill he was. Then she asked my views on resusitation, wait for it: she said that because he now has a weak heart, chronic lung disease and pneumonia they thought that bringing him back if he had another heart attack would only make things worse!!!!!!!!! I obviously got very upset as I was unaware of the heart attack. Her concern was that the weekend was a time where she was off duty and the nurses would need to know our views if something happened. I was in total disbelief and realising that I had to return to my dad's hospital bed looking fairly normal and as though I hadn't been To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. My dad is no fool and looked into my eyes intently (bless), I found it so hard to hold back the tears until I could leave.
I informed my step-mum and she spoke to the nurses the following day, nothing was noted down from the dr about our conversation To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. My dad is a fighter and has now been moved out of ICU and onto another ward (high dependency) and is spending time breathing without oxygen.
I'm sorry to post this fairly low note but I feel that I've been on a To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. er-coaster recently.

Oh my, poor you and poor Dad. How awful, you just can't get decent treatment anywhere can you. I do hope he recuperates well, and you have time with him, also that school gets better too.
I am cross with my supply teacher from last week, she was in Thursday all day and Friday afternoon, on Friday morning I saw she hadn't marked any books, so at lunch before I went (to a funeral) I asked if she knew our marking policy, she said yes but she'd thought i;d like to see the work and mark it myself. i said no she should do it. Guess what - she has marked nothing, in Maths, Literacy, RE and Topic books , aaaagh!

Well, Ruby and G'span - I can only say if I was doing your supply - I wouldn't do that! (The only time I ever don't mark work is if the teacher says not to cos it's a filler/rough/to finish with them - and today when I was bundled out halfway through completing marking!) True it goes both ways and some supply do give us a bad name, but they are the ones who aren't going home and getting upset about it all posting on this forum! On the whole I hope!!!
Oh Audrey - I can totally identify with the pneumonia and hospital thing - OHs mum was rushed in just after New Year with double pneumonia and has been very poorly -she was in HDU after having a very nasty relapse but she's a fighter too and at last is home, but recovery is going to be very slow.
I really hope your dad is starting to pull round now. My little whinges aren't anything serious, and after an evening at home being looked after wonderfully well by my darling husband - almost forgotten. Look after yourself too. And try not to worry about the work for now. Family is more important! xxx

Guys, you know that some supply teachers are crap but there are also some fantastic ones out there too! It's the way of the world. When I'm doing part time supply, I try to be as good and proffessional as I can and that's what gets me asked back!!!!! So please please don't generalise (I'm not saying this to you, just people in general who think supplies are crap!!) - there are some gooduns out there!!! It's the luck of the draw. I really enjoy doing supply - I'm not very good at dealing with the responsibilty of my own class and like the variety of being in different schools and year groups. Don't give up!

Isn't it annoying though when you are still at school marking books at 4.45 and all the school's teachers went home an hour ago!

get my marking done at break and lunch - or as I go round the classroom! I NEVER get a break whilst I'm on supply though - always doing prep or marking but I'd rather leave on time!!!! I love it!!!! Having said that, I'm now a part time permy so can't complain!!!

Thanks all for your words of comfort my dad is fighting it and has moved 5 times in the hospital, he is back on his original ward so To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. As for supply teacher's not marking work-some are like that I have to say To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. ly they give the one's like us who do mark a bad name which is sooo annoying. Yesterday I was permitted to mark during afternoon assembly but because there are so many issues in the class and I was dealing sith some of them I did have to stay behind after school to finish the marking. When I went around to get my supply form signed most of the teacher's had left To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. I'm like Clarabelle and try and mark as much as I can as I go, but sometimes I do end up staying back if its been a very hectic sort of a day, to finish off and write my feedback. And I always always check with someone it's ok to leave at the end of the day in case there's anything they need me to do before I go. Basically I act as I would want a supply teacher to act if they were working in my class for the day. And I agree C'belle, it gets you asked back. Yesterday, someone at the agency told me I was one of their most popular teachers, which was nice to hear, and To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Audrey, glad to hear your dad is improving. Slow and steady. It'll take a while to rebuild his strength. xxx
