Take your own whiteboard pens and wiping cloth !

Oh yeah, and when they use permanent markers to write on the whiteboard... scribble over what they've done with a proper whiteboard pen and wipe and it comes off (my dad used to use aftershave but that just makes the room smell).

And take loads of spare pencils, that way when they claim to have lost their pen, or its run out you can give them a pencil. If the HT moans say you thought some work was better than wasting time hunting for pens.

Stickers - lots catch them being good. Y6 like stickers too!

Always take a teaspoon if you are having yoghurt for your dinner - some schools have none.

Seriously though make sure you take lunch that you can eat whilst marking and at least a bottle of water in case the staffroom isn't that friendly.

And if you mark through breaks and lunch don't feel guilty if you leave early. You've done your job and completed the work.

Make friends of the cleaners/caretakers/any other non-teachers!

Leave the room as you found it, or tidier if it was a tip.

Mark all the books unless you are told specifically not to. Put your initials on the books so the teacher can remember it was you who marked.
