Red face First Observation - aaargh!!!

Hello everyone...

I have my first NQT observation on Monday, and I'm dreading it. It is in Y5/6, and I only work in there for an afternoon per week. I haven't had a proper observation since I was at uni - at least 2.5 years ago...so nerves are fraught!!!

Positive thoughts coming my way, please...

First things first, DON't worry about it! You can't be expected to be the best teacher in the world (I certainly am not after nearly 6 years of teaching!!!). Just prepare yourself well and try to keep calm.

Engage the children, share the success criteria with them, and refer back to it and the learning objective. If you do this, apparently you can't really go far wrong!

Hugs and good luck Choc! Lots of Green & Blacks coming your way!

I also echo the others. I know it is hard/impossible but try to forget they are there. Good luck

Wink Hugs!

Make sure you get some sleep tonight Chocaholic! It's easy for me to say, but don't worry, get them involved in the lesson if they're that sort of person, ask them to work with a group or something!

Good luck, and chin up!

Well....it actually went well :-)

The HT said my organisation and planning were excellent, and I have good behaviour management strategies in place - I was on top of all the behaviour problems. My input was good, and children were on task and knew why they were learning the specific activity. They could also tell the HT what we had done in previous lessons.

The main 'weakness' was differentiation, but the HT knows that it is difficult to get that right when I'm only in there for an afternoon per week...

Thanks for all your help ;-)
