Returning to teaching - In at the SEN deep end!
Hello guys!
I am returning to teaching after 5 years of running and teaching at a school farm. I was 'kinda' teaching there, but not in the planning/assessment/other 'normal' school stuff sense of the word. I was To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. e redundant from this job and now I am facing going back into school again (scary).
I worked quite a lot with special school children whilst in my last role and have decided that I would like to teach in special schools now. I know I have a lot to catch up with generally in terms of curriculum, assessment, etc, so going into special needs is going to be double scary as I have only ever worked in mainstream primary school before.
I have managed to secure a temporary teaching position (with a view to a permanent position) at a local special school teaching a class of 9 children with EBD. They are working at F1/2 levels (I have only ever taught KS1 and KS2) levels so I am avidly swatting up on EYFS stuff too.
As you can imagine, I am slightly nervous (not with regards to dealing with the children per se), but with regards to the nuts and bolts of teaching, assessing, planning, etc.
I would love it if anyone had any good advice with regards to teaching SEN children and what it's like to teach in a SEN school in general. I don't start my contract until March so I have time to swat up!
Thanks guys! x
