Apparently the lesson went really well but I let myself down in the interview as I was so nervous. She said that my nerves got the better of me and although I gave lots of examples I sometimes lost my thread and they had to prompt me on a few questions.
I was gutted (obviously) but I've dusted myself down and I'm back on the hunt again.

Sorry I'm late on this one, avatar twin! It's a shame you didn't get the job, but as everyone has said, you'll learn from this interview and be more mentally prepared next time. They do get better!
Having said that I feel a bit like Nutty - I don't want to jump through loads of hoops and be told that I was let down in my interview by being too nervous! I also have been passed over in favour of an internal candidate who was related to someone on the board of governers, but they didn't tell me that at the time, found that out later....
Actually, having worked in the NHS and been interviewed several times through a fair and transparent interview process, and being marked on criteria like experience, skills and knowledge, rather than presentation and impression during an interview (c'mon who are they kidding? Most people get nervous in interviews....), I think education recruitment could do with a big shake up.
In the NHS you apply through the NHS jobs portal (all jobs, except sometimes internal ones), they are sent to the hospital's HR department, and there are no personal details available about the candidates during the shortlisting procedure, so it's down to who has the most experience, not what handwriting or so on is like. Much fairer, to my mind. Now why not do that with education jobs?
