Default TA as Senco?

Should TAs be the Senco?

Have just read the thread below and wondered what you thought?

Hmmm. Had this experience. HT nominally the SENco, but did nothing. I really, seriously don't think it's professional. All other schools I've worked in had the Deputy as SENco, such a massive job. To go from that, to a TA... no! I know, there are TAs with degrees, qualified teachers working as TAs, but then it's just exploitation anyway, a whole other subject. Glad I'm not a parent, it winds me up just to think there's a TA with potentially no GCSE in Eng/Num working with my nephew who has language problems! If a TA was in charge of his support... bloody hell!

Would you like me to check your covering letter, CV, supporting statement or application form?

of reasons, they wouldn't earn enough for the hugeness of the job, and when giving information or advice it is hard enough for qualified teachers to do that to colleagues, for a TA to go and tell a teacher how to do her job would be akin to masochism in some cases. I appreciate that there are plenty of TAs who would do it better than others but not worth it for their sake x
