New board on the way?
Hello all... Long post...
A while ago, I started thinking about restructuring the board, there is so much useful information on here for chocolate lovers, er, I mean supply teachers, I wanted to formalise it and make it easier to navigate (for navigate, read cut through the chat and find the important bits for newcomers!)
Also, I have no control over SEO (search engine optimisation) for the board, and it keeps yo-yoing from top positions in Google, to nowhere to be seen. The italian guys (forumup staff) control that, and aren't doing too good a job on it!
So, I've come to two decisions I'd like to share with you...
Firstly, to formalise the info in a useful and user-friendly way I'm at the moment (with skiteacher's help) creating To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. It's a work in progress, especially the logo and emergency lesson plans etc. I'm having the team that built enjoyyourmeal.co.uk sort out a logo for me! The emergency lesson plans, well, I have so many lessons in my head that require no resources at all, I'd like that to be the place people go when no planning is left for them, or they have a spare half hour during the day... I've still got tonnes of stuff I want to write on it, info for teachers from overseas, pay rates, insurances, info for schools on what info to give supply teachers, etc., etc.
I've had offers from supply agencies before on advertising on here, but we've never come to an agreement, and not being bothered, I left it... but as you willl see, I've GoogleAds on there, and a page on advertising on the site, also details of 50% of profits after hosting and presentation costs going to the NSPCC. I'll publish full annual accounts on a member's area on it, so that you can all see we're not ripping the NSPCC off. It's somehow already To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. e $0.90 somehow on GoogleAds! The other 50% of the profits I would share equally based on time spent between myself, skiteacher and anyone else who had contributed to the main site (writing articles, emergency lesson plans etc.) But I don't expect profits will be a feature of the site for a few years to come!
Secondly, I'd like to move the forum to that site. As you will see, there's a link to it already, but I'd like to buy a vBulletin board (about £90), so that I'd have total control over the SEO. In Yahoo.co.uk, supplybag.co.uk itself already comes in at #5 for 'supply teacher forum', and yet it has barely any content (this forum is not included in Yahoo's ranking). I'd like to attract a wider audience, without spamming TES all the time! Incidently, supplybag.co.uk is already ahead of TES.co.uk for 'supply teacher forum' in Yahoo on a UK search!
vBulletin boards, as some of you may know, have many more features than forumup boards, and are fully customisable. Here's an example of one I use for help with enjoyyourmeal.co.uk: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. As you can see, it's got a built-in calendar etc., it's a lot more stable than this one. I can also include the jigsaws, drawboard etc., so no worries about that!
OH is looking into how to move this board to a vBulletin one, without losing content etc., so we wouldn't lose anything though we're not so sure that we would be able to move users without loosing number of posts To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. e etc. This board would always be here, but I would like to phase out posting on here over time...
I'm a bit paranoid about moving it, as I used to post on a border collie forum, which had over 100 active users (over 1000 registered) and when the host moved the board (to an Invasion board, which aren't very crisp and clear!) only around 10 users moved with her, the rest left and found another board all upset at the changes To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. e... I know people get comfortable, as I am here, but I really cannot get more people to the site as it is, without spamming TES, for which I have been suspended before! I love you all here, and don't 'need' other people on here, you're a fantastic group of friends and massive support for me, but it's great when we get new faces and a shame that there are still supply teachers out there feeling isolated.
Let me know what you think!

Seriously though, I would move with you for the same reasons, class you all as friends and I like hearing what you are up to (not that I am nosey or anything!!), and I am sure the regular posters you say the same. If you need any help, give me a shout.

Thanks guys, it's great to hear so far!
Footie, you foiled my plan! No wonder you went into the force! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. (As if!)
OH has found a way to export the content (but not the member settings) to a new board, I have to upgrade this one first, but that's just $10, so a drop in the ocean really... I'm talking to the webdesign company today about it...
BTW, how are you feeling pebble?
Any more votes/thoughts on this???

Hi nutty - much better thanks! Had post op check and consultant said that "as I only work with little ones I should be OK to go back to work!!!" To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Suppose I could always curl up in the book corner and go to sleep if I need to!!! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I'm planning to go back to supply "proper" after Easter but might do pre-booked am/pm before that if I'm needed.
(Sorry - [smilie=offtopic.gif] I know!)
