It sounds like the type of job that TAs/HLTAs get, but you're on a teaching wage... the school must really value the qualifications/training... Makes a change!

Well would just like to tell you all that they finally rang at 5 pm last night and said i had it so i'm well chuffed. At least for now. They've said that it'll be for 4 weeks total but are going to take it on a week to week basis because of the children and possible the chance of me deciding that the kids are just too awful. Any tips or suggestions on how to handle them would be great. Don't want to go and be a complete horror of a teacher but there again i can't risk being nice in case they walk all over me. When I went to the school they said that they didn't want a TA taking these childrenn as they really needed someone with more experience. Hope I do alright but i'll let you all know. Thanks again for all your happy thoughts as they must have helped but defo keep posting advice for behaviour management etc, i'll really appreciate it!!!!!

Thanks Dan xx

Well done Dan! Congratulations!

No tips on behaviour coming to the mind at the moment, but a thing about your own mental well-being... when you're in the middle of it all, and the kids are being little sh*ts, just think on to the end of the time, and how much stronger and wiser you'll be because of the experience, and you'll have those little sh*ts to thank for that!

On behaviour, bribe them! In four weeks you ain't gonna perform miracles. Don't expect them, yet have high expectations of their standard of behaviour when they're with you. Make sure (think I wrote this earlier?) they know that the lines of communication between you/the head/the class teacher/their parents are open, and use them.

And good luck! I'm so pleased for you!
