Default Disrespect to adults

What happened to the world?

I, along with other adults in the classroom, was shown an enormous amount of disrespect the other day by one child (KS2), to the disgust of other children too! We were basically verbally abused.. and when we saw the teacher about it at the end of the day, the teacher gave said child a hug! There, there, never mind...

I know there are children with problems, this being one of them, but that was a blatant show of disrespect, shouldn't we be teaching them manners, rather than pampering to them all the time? Manners aren't being taught at home often these days, do we make allowances for these children, or teach them basic social skills?

Where do we draw the line?

e him redo something three times 'til he did it properly... not rewriting a story or anything, but hanging his art apron up properly on a radiator to dry as he'd soaked it. I was inside out, hanging off, with the arms crumpled up inside.

"Humph, I don't get this at home," he sighed as I asked him to try again so that the paint on it didn't mark the radiator.

I pointed out that maybe he should!

Disrespect FROM adults!

I work in the shittest school there is round here. I've been the only supply teacher they've had in the past 2 years now. No-one else will come/come back. The kids are from poor backgrounds, and the teachers do little to make them feel safe/welcome/supported when they get to school. OFSTED slate them.

I'm a bloody good teacher, with a fantastic track record, references, results etc., etc., 'blowing my own trumpet'...

Some PPA cover I do, has been changed to another day (that bit's fine) because (this bit isn't) I was teaching Numeracy (I have been Numeracy Co-ordinator in a top of the county league school in the south-east before), and they didn't think it was wor

as the kids play me up, they'd rather they didn't 'miss' an hours numeracy, so can I go in a different day and do RE instead! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

out the relevant threads on here and you will regain your sense of humour again.

Is supply worth it-I think the fact that you can turn down a nightmare of a school if you don't want to return there is a real bonus. Flexibility is great, lack of work at times isn't, getting back into the swing of things for you will be a bonus surely.

As for the children-well unfortunately the behaviour of some of them has really taken a turn for the worse, a general lacl of social skills/respect. I was in a class last week (yr 6) and this child kicked off, I asked him to leave the classroom and he refused saying "You can't f****** make me. I informed him that he would be leaving and sent for his class teacher because he annoyed me so much. It was the first time that he'd been like that with me, usually he is okay (despite being difficult). His punishment was that he had to remain behind after school and apologise to me, I

e him wait until I was ready though. There should always be someone that you can call upon in difficulty so don't ever suffer when you don't have.

I personally like supply because I can be choosy when I am busy, although I am after a permanent job, if I didn't need a f/t job I'd probably stay on supply

Is it worth it? Yes! You've done the first 2 days, the hardest generally! Seriously, I don't think it's got better in the last 9 years, worse if anything. HOWEVER! You're not doing full-time... you're doing supply... and it's good! Once you

Thanks for support. Had another awful day in same school - on a good note first session went really well and then it was wet playtime and it all went downhill from there. Not doing my confidence much good.
Whenever i ring agency about work next week, by the time i can turn phone on after school, my girl has left for the day so i keep leaving messages. Is this normal?
I got told to bugger off by 4 year old yesterday and had the usual 'you're not my teacher you can't tell me what to do' several times today. One girl threatening to kill anyone who looked at her, and she was obviously being targeted and wound up by the others just to see her flip.
Praying for a vaguely normal class next week - don't expect perfection from kids but would like to feel I've done a good job at the end of the day.

Sorry for moans.

Oh yes. we've all had those days! Keep smiling and keep at it - it will get better.

I'm with an agency that text me when they have work, but I am NEVER quite quick enough to get it...but the other agencies I'm with usually answer the phone till about half past five, then they have an on call system. I would try joining another

. Depends where you are in the country of course, but in my experience the smaller local agencies tend to be the best - you want to be at the top of the pile for assignments, not getting the rubbish everyone else has turned down or won't accept! At first we all find it difficult to turn down work, as we're afraid it won't keep coming in, but it does! Your agency needs to know what your limits are, and it's no good if you never get to speak to your rep, as often if you develop a good relationship with someone in the office, and they know you do a good job, you'll be first in line for decent work. And a good agency will return you to schools you have been to before, if you have enjoyed it and done a good job.

It took time, but I have a few ground rules with my agencies; no KS2, no nursery nurse assignments, but I'm prepared to travel, so they sometimes ring me to go to more remote assignments. And I pre-boo

s rather than early morning calls (although I will answer calls if work has been scarce). Your rules may be different, but trust me - having a few rules will make your life much easier! Remember, they can't function without you and your skills.
