Kenglish, just had a thought... why haven't the agency sent teachers they already have on their books to this school? How come you've been given it straight away?

Coz no-one else will work there!!!!!

THanks all for encouraging messages.

Got a question:
I've only signed on with one agency and there is no work for this week. How many agencies should i be with? and any tips for what to do in the holidays?
ALso do you know any agencies that find work for tutoring?
Thanks

I am registered with 4 now. The tally is slowly creeping up - basically I sort of have one favourite agency, who I have a good relationship with, who almost always get me work, and I get the feeling I'm top of their list (so have the benefit of getting the best jobs...) They are a smaller agency, so I figured at the beginning I would register with a bigger national one too and they have never got me work yet, not because it's not available, but because it either clashes with work I am already booked for, or I don't get back to the office after a text comes through to me quick enough! Both of those agencies pay without timesheets, which I am totally useless with and find a major bore!

I'm also on the books of another agency more local to my area - haven't been registered with them long, and they are ok, but don't pay as much as the others, and have some longwinded system of paying monthly, which isn't a problem in itself, but when work is scarce, money can be a bit tight. I registered with them more for longterm posts and the fact they deal with schools near to me. The agency I have just registered with seem good (although, again, was more for longterms as they seem to have a focus on that) but don't pay as much day to day, and again, use the dreaded timesheet system...But if work is thin on the ground it's useful, I guess.

Register with as many as you like the sound of. I used to live in Teesside, and a lot of the agencies didn't have offices locally, they outsourced from Newcastle - so if it's like that where you are, go with local ones - you need a face. If you've got plenty to choose from, give them a ring, and go with the ones that sound like you can live with them ringing you at 7.30 with work. If they're pushy or sound dozy, or don't sound happy when you say you're not keen on travelling/particular age group etc etc, then don't even put them on your list. After all, once you're registered, you don't have to work for them! The agency you're with don't sound very good - I'd find another

, any agency worth its salt will work harder to make sure you keep doing work for them and not other agencies, at least mine does! It's in their interests to keep you loyal because it means you're a reliable teacher they can call on!

WOW lots of info there! I'm sure others will add more.
