Default Poet's Corner

Any takers on the poet? Haven't a clue I'm afraid!

"Children Learn What They Live"

If a Child lives with Criticism, He learns to Condemn.

If a Child lives with Praise, He learns to Appreciate.

If a Child lives with Hostility, He learns to Fight.

If a Child lives with Tolerance, He learns to be Patient.

If a Child lives with Ridicule, He learns to be Shy.

If a Child lives with Encouragement, He learns Confidence.

If a Child lives with Shame, He learns to feel Guilty.

If a Child lives with Approval, He learns to like Himself.

If a Child lives with Fairness, He learns Justice.

If a Child lives with Security, He learns to have Faith.

If a Child lives with Acceptance and Friendship, He learns to find Love in the World.

e it, it was back in the good old days when Microsoft couldn't do everything. I did it in my best (dodgey!) calligraphy, then the kids illustrated around it. Lovely.

Found the author! Dorothy Law Nolte in 1972 (according to the website below). That was an approved short version, which I've found for sale here:

She's written a book with the same title too. Also found the full version here:

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.
