Curbing the dropout rates
The ‘I have a Dream’ foundation was formed in Dallas in September 1986 by Bill and Late Elaine Farrell after watching a segment on the program on Sixty Minutes. The city has been in need of a similar program to curb the high rates of drop out among the children coming from low income and high violence regions. The city became the first after New York to adopt a ‘I have a Dream’ program, which became quiet a success here. The first class was adopted in May 1987and the adoption of a second class of 1,000 ‘Dreamers’ was in 1988.
Most of the students from the first two adopted classes have graduated from college and are employed in the professional world or attending graduate school, law school, or medical school.
