s on how to deal with the regular staff.

I have been to a few schools where some members tend to treat us supply teachers as complete idiots, their rude and abrupt when they speak, they dont pass on vital information and some make you look like an idiot in front of the students.

For exampleThe first incident happened when I was coming off playground duty. I had the children lined up and ready for their teacher to come and collect them. This teacher came down stood in the playground and then issued orders to the group of children lined up. I Thought she was the children's class teacher, as I knew she definelty wasnt the principle, vice principle or head teacher, So when she stood in front of the children I walked off to collect my class from undercover. While I was waiting for a few of my children to turn up, The same teacher came up to me, stood very close to me and said you never leave prep children on their own all right. She said I just walked off. The teacher in question did not care if there were children sitting listening. I tried to explain to her that i would never have left the children if she hadnt come along and stood in front of them. and that I thought she was their class teacher.

The second incident occured this week when I had to do some non contact relief for a particular person who refused to take their non contact time, they spoke down to me in front of their class and repeated everything they said 3 times to me as though I was hard of hearing. The person said they had mar

After dealing with that incident I also had to deal with a few assistants who wanted to be in complete charge of the room I was wor

I am tired of these sort of people treating us supply teachers like we're dirt. I have another freind of mine who has recently been turned off teaching because of the attitude of some full time teachers. I refuse to let them put me off teaching and therefore am as

Hi first of all

Second of all I am no help because although I come across these appalling attitudes all of the time I never really say anything. Just sort of put up and shut up and grit my teeth til the end of the day when I come home and vent. Some people just have really bad attitudes and I don't think it's worth trying to change them especially when it's only a day. Just make a mental not of who and where it's happened and really consider whether you're happy going back to the school again.

Sorry I wish I could be more help but I just get on with it and get out. But I really hate it when teachers stay in the class and then undermine you by shouting at the children or whatever. Really makes me

Crikey that's awful, really sorry you've been treated like that. Can't offer any more advice than Danfur's given really, I don't know any teacher who would treat supply like that so there are good ones out there I promise. Don't give up .

Hi Petunia,

That is awful, and I think really there are a

of ways you could look at it...

1. Realise that it's their ego problem not yours.
2. Feel sorry for the people who have to work with them day in, day out.
3. Think how unhappy they must be with their lives to end up being like that in front of children, and feel sorry for them (someone said this once to me, I'm not convinced it's a way, but some people do)
4. Be proud of yourself for having more common courtesy and professionalism than to do something like that in front of the kids. Hold your head up high!
5. I did this once: I'd been called in around 10am to a school, got 'told off' for not doing something correctly, so explained that when I arrived at the school that morning, first time I'd been there, I'd been sent into the classroom straight away and not been given a

Nothing more to add really, lots of very good comments already made. When I was doing supply, I did encounter indifference and didn't always have a great deal of information or support, but never anything as rude or unprofessional as you mention.

Probably best not to go back to those schools again. You could do a Nutty and tell them, but I'm not sure it would make any difference and you have probably got better things to do with your time!
