I've had a look at a few threads and posts, and they look really helpful, but i just wondered, if you could give me one piece of advice what would it be?

Look forward to hearing from you...
Cheers guys

Hi and welcome to the forum!

If I could give you one piece of advice? Well, er, that's a tough one! I could cheat and say

, but that's not really in the spirit of the game!

Ok, so, I've decided... Be in control: if you like to be more organised, then go that way.. You don't have to sit around for hours / days waiting for a phone call, be pro-active, get out there and introduce yourself to local schools, give them an 'availability card' (search that term and I think you'll find it), make sure you know how you would get to each of your local schools, and how long it will take, so you can let them know you'll be there in xx minutes, make sure that each night your bag's ready to go, there's something in the fridge you could turn into a lunch quickly, and your clothes / shoes are ready.

If you like to be in control, be in control of yourself, organise yourself, and you'll be a better teacher for it! You'll arrive so much more unflustered to even the latest booking!

Good luck!

Hi,

I have been doing supply since September and I to hate the waiting around for a phone call feeling like I'm waiting for someone else to tell me what to do, where to be etc when I'm a very organised person and don't like been out of control so my solution was to stop waiting around for the phone, be ready and prepared (bags, clothes, lunch etc) but just carry on as you normally would, plan days out, jobs you need to do etc. I find I'm much happier to cancel plans if a call comes in rather than having no plans/control over my days at all and finding myself bored and to worried to do anything in case I get a call.

but I'll defo take your advice onboard.

Well I've so far saved all the schools in the areas I've said Im able to travel to (which is about 80+ schools -eek!!) and have the telephone numbers and addresses...

my next step is to turn this into a file and try and get directions/ what mode of transport to use to get to each school- unfortunately I don't yet drive

so I can say, ok so that will take me x amount of time to get there.

I have started up a file of lesson fillers, songs, literacy, numeracy & topic lessons for both ks1/2 so getting there slowly!

LOL See, when I say 'all your local schools', I forget about people living near lots... There's only about 20 within a 40 minute driving range for me!

Don't go overboard with your lessons file... For me anyway, about 95% of times there were plans left... And don't include stuff in it that you'd need a
