Default Hi everyone from a newbie

Just thought I'd say hello

I only put my name down to do primary supply the other week and the agency I went to have been pestering me to do 5 days a week ever since. I thought there wasn't any work out there and had an image of popping into a classroom once a month to do "a bit" of supply!!?!

I had read posts on this site as well on the TES and it seems very bleak for supply teaching - is it that everyone is very select about where they work (and very vocal about not getting any work) or is it a regional issue? Just curious! I live in the SE and I am male - I don't know if the lack of the male species in primary schools is an issue too (I doubt it, it felt that they just wanted an English speaking warm body in each classroom).

One last thing, I was a bit hesitant about my first day as I haven't taught since 2002 and have been doing pen pushing ever since. The pen pushing pays more and is less hassle, but I have to say supply teaching is great fun and being able to teach and not have to plan work or f*nny about in a school until 6pm is a revelation!

Hello and welcome!

Glad you are being kept busy. I cant comment on the availability of supply work as I am no longer in teaching, but the others will be able to help.

Hope it all keeps busy for you. Look forward to chatting more x

Hello and welcome from me too.

What can I say? Yep I think the supply varies by region. I'm in the North East and it definitely has its ups and downs round here. I like the little ones so I tend to ask for them and most of the time there is enough work coming in to keep me going (if only just) but just at the moment it's

Also - there's absolutely no shortage of primary teachers up here - male or female!

Anyway, hope the work keeps on

Hello and welcome from me too!

I still have to plan work and f*nny about in school until 6pm most nights, so not sure what the demand for supply is like, except that I'm Greater Manchester and our supply budget has been huge this year!

Hope you keep getting plenty of work and find the forum useful.

Another hello and welcome!

I'm in the Lakes, and there's a few teaching courses in colleges around here affiliated to unis, and NQTs tend to hang around for a few years afterwards taking advantage of the access to lakes and mountains etc., not really getting a 'proper' job, but doing supply and keeping their part-time jobs on in hotels, bars etc. instead, though less so now with the 4-term rule.

I was never really struggling for work until this Sept when, have to say it, both schools I got comfortable at found a

of male NQTs - that's right, male, and cheap! Double bonus! But, I've got 3 days of contracts a week for the year, and although I've only done 3 days supply since Sept with them, it's been more than enough and I've not gone back to the other schools I've worked in to let them know I'm still available... coz, yes, I'm choosy!

Hi and welcome from me also. When I started supply last year I was extremely busy but then took a short term contract before Xmas and lost my regular supply as someone else stepped into my shoes

I thought it was quiet where I am until I spoke to a teacher the other day and she said that there had been loads of supply about (obviously too many of us around).

Great though that you are busy, i prefer to busy instead of willing the phone to ring. Good luck I hope it continues, you usually find that once a few schools like you it's pretty much in the bag.
