Question Just a quick question

Hi Everyone,
I found this great forum while searching the net. I'm starting supply work in Feb next year in Leeds. I wondered if there is a lot of work going there for supply?
My husband is in construction and the economy is bad now so there is no work for him. I'll be the main breadwinner (yay) and I was wondering if there is likely to be enough work around to support us. Is it possible to get a lot of supply work up in Leeds or is it very quiet?
Any help would be really appreciated as I'm feeling a bit worried. We have savings but I don't want to break into them as we don't have a lot. We can't claim any benefits as my Husband is from overseas but i'm British. Any advice?

Tearose (^^)

Hi there!

Welcome to the forum.

The amount of work you get is dependent on a number of things -

a) how flexible you are with the Key Stages you're prepared to teach
b)how far you're prepared to travel
c) how good your agencies are
d) how much you hassle them!

a and b basically give you more s

d is the bit that takes a bit of getting used to!

My advice would be to sign up with a

Don't go in with any unrealistic expectations; sometimes supply can be tough and at times it gets you down. Most of the time you will meet lovely classes, but every now and then there's a real blinder

In my experience, the more you harrass the agencies, the more work you get!

Hi Tearose,

The only other thing I would suggest is not going with an agency initially, if you can get a CV/letter to schools before you move up to Leeds, and have a few visits too, then when you do get supply at least it'll be at LEA rate rather than at an agency rate. I did this and have never had to think about using an agency. There're quite a few threads on here about how to go about contacting schools direct, and the experiences people have had, but

Its daunting as we are moving from Japan in about 4 weeks and it'll be very different teaching back in the U.K. again. The last time I taught at home was 3 years ago.
