Hello everyone

s etc that I was wondering about how difficult it would be to start such a website. I am delighted that I don't need to now.

I retrained as a teacher when my youngest child went to school and have done part-time and supply ever since. I am stuck in a rut at the moment working for only one school (in my village). I know all the staff, kids and routines so its relatively easy, especially as every day is always planned for me. However, it is a small school and amount of work is limited.

Now my youngest is 13 he is much more idependent with going to and coming home from school and my eldest is about to go to uni (for 5 years) so DESPERATELY NEED MONEY.

Am abit nervous about approaching other schools in the area. Am wondering whether to just pop in to say hello or make it more formal by making an appointment to see head. Should I send letter/CV on ahead and wait for them to contact me?

Anyway I know I should do it but its easy to put off. I am comfortable at the village school and its a bit scary to step out of the comfort ZONE!!

Next time I visit I will have a note book to write down all your great

It would be great to hear from anyone passing by.

Hello and welcome to the site. I know what you mean about it being nerve wracking going to other schools but after the first day it'll be fine. Nutty has loads of advice on here about approaching schools directly. In my area supply work all comes through agencies but I know in other areas it pays to approach the school. Check through the site and keep asking as everyone on here is really helpful. Good luck xx

Hello to Danfur and Footiegirl. Great to hear from you so promptly and thanks for the words of encouragement.

I live in quite a rural location and do not want to spend hours travelling to schools. I believe that local schools only use agencies as a very last resort (if at all). I would certainly love to build up a good relationship with a

of other schools in the neighbourhood. So the direct approach seems best.

I am off now to get my son's bassoon from the music shop and once the kids are ready for school/college/uni I will be able to take some time myself getting ready for the new term.

Go for it JJ,

There's loads of good stuff here, even from those of us like Footie & I who don't do the teaching thing any more.

We're a jolly bunch.

Take care

Hello! Welcome!

Had a hectic day yesterday so didn't get on - spent the day helping doodle back her boards in her freshly painted gorgeous classroom, then spent the evening watching

, we were the only proper audience, everyone had picnics, but we had a BBQ - yeah!

Hope you've managed to find the threads on approaching schools, but if not, in a nutshell: phone and ask if they'd like to see your CV with a view to supply, say you'll post it, then hand-deliver instead. I have picked up work on delivery before, and it's always good for the secretary to put a face to the name. However, think you should mention it to your current head and ask for their advice too, as you never know, they may just make a few phone calls on your behalf, or at least let you know which would be the nice schools to work for, who may be struggling for staff etc.
